A Sticky Subject
The gist of the Ask? is really are you selling OR buying. BUT what I would like to know as a prospective returnee to ownership of a rotary is, HOW MUCH do I expect to pay for a nice clean Classic? As I am looking for another rotary. I did run a Krouser Commander for some time . I am looking to return to the fold. This time I want to go smaller as no European travel is envisaged. So a Air cooled will be ideal? BUT what do you think I should expect to pay?? All comments will be taken seriously. Thanks Mick
Re: A Sticky Subject
Hi MickI would have thought 5-6k the trouble is people see stuff on ebay and think thats the current price. there was a classic in irland for £6500. I bought my F1 Sport for £7500 less than it was origonaly advertised and its absolutly mint, the problem for sellers are there are not a huge que of buyers for Norton Rotarys but theres a lot of time wasters. befor you buy discuss with a classic insurance valuer what they think one is worth, theres a clause in the cassic aggreed value policys they can refer to sutch people ain the event of a clame if they do thats the price you will get.Regards Wayne
Re: A Sticky Subject
Hi Wayne. I have seen one for sale in Ireland as it happens in the north on the NW200 race track area. The Add is on the BBB site he has it up for £9500. and it's not perfect!! It has damaged exhaust guards and fading on the speedo face. I was thinking of a price of around £7000. But your idea of contacting my insurer is a good one. I'll give them a call asap. Mick

Re: A Sticky Subject
The hardest part of owning a rotary is finding a good one for sale, the more you pay the better you get is what I say.Not everything is as big a bargain as it seems especially nowadays Some F1 sports go as much as 20 + K even IP2's are now picking up good prices which is good for owners I guess and bad for buyers.Good luck and go with your heart not your wallet

Thesse bikes were purchased over the last two years.any bike is only worth what someone will payRegards Wayne
Re: A Sticky Subject
Thanks for the help. I contacted my insurer FJ. Not much help there but not suprised, they will only say that in a claim situation they would contact the relevant owners club!!! for help.I will treat the Ireland trip as a holiday as we are going for a week. Just with an empty trailer JUST in case!!
Re: A Sticky Subject
The bike in irland was droped to £6500 on ebay and it did not sell?
Re: A Sticky Subject
There was a pretty tatty looking IP2 in Cork on ebay about three weeks ago with a rotted out tank asking price was about 2300euros ran out of time and went on the second attempt for a little less than that. I thought My Commander was in reasonable condition but waited about 5 months before it sold on ebay for £3000 When you can buy a nine or ten year old Speed Triple for less than £2000, you've got to want a rotary pretty bad. The market is awash with cheap clean machines but they're not Nortons.

Re: A Sticky Subject
hi interplod no dig at all, just my oppinion and advice on prices and how i purchase things, the relivence of my pricses were they were recent and nothing like the prices that are banded about in the press ect. Mickbefore i bought the black f1 sport there was a classic in classic bike for £5.5k a good price in my opinion, if the sport deal fell through i would have been tempted. The next thing i saw was a classic that allegerdly sold on ebay for 12k, i say alledgerdly because two weeks later an equaly mint one appeard at 9k and did not recive 1 bid, i canot wonder why the other unluky bidders did not try for this one. To me the only way to get an average vallue would be for people to say aproximatly what they paid for one over the last 12/24 months. Another point worth considdering for all would Fj accept a valuation from the ROC due to the structure of the club, i suspect they would point to the Noc where we are fourtunate as Graham is the rotory specialist.Regards Wayne

Re: A Sticky Subject
Classic's don't come up for sale very often, and the price veries enormosly, from three grand for a real tatty one, to eight and a half grand,(sold at auction) for a "factory only test miles" absolute minter!!I remember at a Rugely open day about three years ago a guy was looking for about six grand for one in realy poor condition(I thought about two,two and a half max) Good hunting, ride safe,J.B.
Re: A Sticky Subject

Re: A Sticky Subject
Hi Mike, I remember attending the NOC International Rally in Southern Ireland way back in 2003, and this was one of the few international rallies that I have attended where mine was NOT the only Classic,If memory serves there were four, mine,a guy from Germany,(who's bike was the only water cooled Classic ever to leave the factory) and two from Ireland, one resided near Cork, was one of thees one you purchased?(so pleased you didn't pay nine and a half grand, that's realy daft money)anyway, whatever you payed,I hope you enjoy owning and riding it as much as I do,(50,000 miles and counting)ride safe,J.B.
