Post by Interpol2471 »

Hi all Popham is gradually heading again towards us for 2011, lets beat last years great turn up and double the figure. Anyone wishing to attend please let me know ASAP before mid July for a free entry ticket. A marquee and tea making facilities will again be provided and remember this is quickly becoming one of the biggest bike meets and jumbles in the uk. I am sure everyone from last year will confirm it is a great day, have a look at http://www.popham-airfield.co.uk/Motorcycle_matters.htmThanks for your support Paul cool

Hi Everyone,Big sorry to all those i promised i was going, Paul, David, Richard. But i did get almost there!i was 20 miles away and the bike after cutting out 2-3 times finnally caught fire and i had to call recovery, i was no more than 20 mins away! The bike isnt damaged thank god i managed to put the fire our with some bike cleaning products but the underside is badly scorched and it is leaving more oil on the floor than my commando! The exhaust in the space of approx 30 seconds when cherry red from front to back and luckily Rob Rendle was behind me on his rotary and forced me off the road quick before it really caught fire.Sorry Guys next time!Russ

Hi Derek, well there isn't much to tell really,it started miss firing then not firing at all on the left chamber, it did 70 miles to a tank (normally 125) so was drinking fuel and then the left pipe got red hot from the engine to the tip catching the centre stand rubber alight and scorching the bottom of the panniers and melting the chain guard and some powder coated parts! The stainless exhaust guards are now blue and gold! looks pretty cool! Shit happens as they say, its being looked at over the next couple of weeks and hopefully gremlins will be cured!once again sorry to all those who i promised i would get there! I spent 9 hours traveling back from italy on Sat to make the event after stamping my feet for 2 weeks with my captain to get me off the ship in time and i still didnt make it! typical!I will try and make the next event but looks like i am back to sea on Friday in any case!cheersRussi'll put the photos on my photo albums so you can see the cherry red internal of the exhaust about 5 mins after i stopped the bike and the gold stainless! have to say looks pretty cool! maybe gold heat shields which catch on! haha

How many miles did you travel on one rotor? In my experience all the petrol washing through the chamber dissolves any lubricant & due to the rotor running "dry" you end up with a smeared side plate.Fingers crossed you haven`t.Derek.

Hi Russ, any idea as to why the bike ran so hot? and was there any indication on the temp guage? lets hope the old girl has'nt "smeared",but most important, YOU are O.K.take care,J.B. On a differant tac, a big thank you Roy for putting on the stand for us at Popham, the tea and bic's were most welcome after the blast up from the wilds of Essex(and at times during the day)thanks again, ride safe,J.B.

Hi JB,its a good point, in actual fact the temp was fine and has been since jan when the thermostat was changed.I started the bike today and it started easier than normal but was smokey from the left pipe. My thought was an exhaust gas fire, hearing it today was a relief it wasn't noisey and ran ok but smokey and cut out.if the engine is smeared are they noisey? my IP2 is smeared but i've never heard it running.cheersRuss

There not noisy but cut out at tickover when smeared but are usually very hard to start or will not run on both chambers.Derek.
