Winter bike

Post by Dell Boy »

Dug out my Red Krauser Commander today to use as my winter bike as it has heated handle bars.Took the good batteries off the Grey one & fitted them to it.Took the plugs out & pumped chambers full of oil.Plugs back in & hit the button. She tried to start but was a bit oil locked giving too much rotational resistance.Took one plug out & she fired up easily.I put the other plug back in & it fired instantly on both chambers & ran really well & ticked over nice & slow. Lots of smoke of course initially. This bike hasn`t been started for about a year.Fitted a new Cougar rear tyre [£39.00] & gave it a service. Now, because its been snowing all day, I haven`t been able to try it out!Still, cant snow forever, can it?

Busting a gut to get out on a bike after all the snow and sub zero temperatures. All ready to go, handlebar muffs, windscreen, waxoil etc. Bit concerned about the latest development in road salt, mixing molasses with it to make it stick. Just what you need on your pride and joy. Hopefully we'll get some serious rain next to wash all that s--t off the roads.

Same here, After two or three days of not being able to ride I get ever so twitchy. I cant even get interested in doing stuff in the garage because I cant jump on & try out what I have done so there doesn`t seem to be any point in doing it. I have never been one for winter projects. I try to get everything together that a project needs & then crash into it summer or winter & get it finished in a week or two. I dont hang about getting specialists to repair/provide services. If it cant be done quickly it doesn`t get done.Next project is a 1954 Model 50/ES2/Model 19 depending on which engine I use. It will be a real garden shed/scrap pile bitsa using up the junk I have lying about. Still need a few bits before I get started. I forgot to bid on a great brand new old stock fishtail silencer on ebay. Waited all evening for it & then in the last few minutes got involved in something else & forgot about it!! It only fetched £16.00 & was local so I could collect. It would have looked great on the single. Roll on the rain!!!Derek.

I had a set of cheap and cheerfull heated grips on my IP2. They were very good. Unfortunately I decided to remove them for the summer. Do you know how many miles of reistance wire there is in those things? ............. I do red face

The ones I use are a ceramic unit that works like a electric fire bar. They fit inside the end of the handlebars with the wiring conduited through the bars to the middle of the clamps & from there to power supply & dual temperature high/low switch. No problem with external wires breaking or snagging. Fit & forget. They are/were made in New Zealand & called, I think WARM HANDS.Derek.
