Well, since you ask so nicely .......It is exactly as described. There was photo of it in one of the Norton Group Annual Reports / share offers as a TRRL promotional bike.It is new, still got the bobbles on the tyres, but needs a good cleanIf anyone is going to buy it to ride, that Girling 'ABS' would have to be junked; never made it past the prototype stage for a very good reason - cr@p response time. It wouldn't pass an MOT. Reverting to standard just requires the appropriate hoses. All the electrical bits are there, but the lighting wiring needs connecting.Carbs have been overhauled and re-set, engine starts easily, runs, idles at 600rpm, and re-starts hot. Of course, not molyed.Fairing is hand-made aluminium, with Yamaha FZ750 (I think) headlamp and 'Forth bridge' early leg protectors inside. It really is the only 'new' unused IP2 available - unless someone else knows different of course.R.

Hi Russ,This IP2, before the TRRL and Girling stuff was added, is exactly as it left the assembly line in 1987. I don't think it was even road tested before being changed. At that time (1987), molybdenum coating the plates hadn't been considered; it was only after Tony Squire and I 'rode' a moly'd F1 on the Shenstone rolling road in 1993 (I think) for several hundred hours that we were happy that the coating wasn't going to detach and cause an even bigger internal disaster. Before that, there were a few IP2 left hand plates that were fitted to customer machines for trial. One had bronze coating, one cast irion, another stainless; I don't believe there's any record of machines to which they were fitted, or how long they lasted.R.

There is a feature on this IP2 and its unique braking system in the next ROC newsletter - actually the one after next because the next one has just been posted, and it probably will not yet have arrived.DC

Thanks Richard,do you know if any one can help with my Commander in finding the history? i've tried the Norton owners club but they have no details on the bike?i know it is an ex Police bike but whether it was a home office bike or MOD i'm not sure? the VRM is F777 UBX i have the chassis number as well but not to hand? i believe its something like 4423.I know it to be a Police bike as it has the tell tale signs, single seat, IRS nottingham calibrated speedo and forward lamps removed etc etc. I'd like to have known what force had the bike in service.thanksRuss

Russ,'UBX' sounds familiar - have we met ?Anyway, for an 'F' registration, the engine/frame number is more likely to be 4023 (Mine is 'F750***', frame # 4059, registered March '89). Norton service records are filed by frame number; if you can provide the correct frame number, I'll see what I can find.R.

Thanks Guys,as i'm at sea till the end of the month i will find out the chassis number later unless i can get my parents to find V5!Richard i dont think we've met but you may know of the bike? it was with police from 1988?-1994 then in private ownership it was taken off the road in 1994 and left ever since never used until i bought it on ebay approx 2 years ago from a dealer in wales. i'm the 3rd owner.it took a week but my father and i got it working all though it cuts out when hot and doesnt want to restart! since i work away at sea i've been put off a rebuild as it will never be used when i'm away so i'll wait till have a permanent job at home as everyone has told me i need to use it to keep it working!?thanksRussi have some photos of the bike but i tried to create a folder here last night but it wont upload them,?
