Commander Starter Motor

Post by andygbsmith »

Every now and again, when I try to start the bike the starter runs but doesn't engage e.g. doesn't turn the motor over. Normally after a couple of attempts, the bike starts and then it will be as good as gold for a week or two. I was going to pull the starter off and just give it a good clean up, any thoughts on what I should be looking for or has anyone had this problem before?I thought I'd better get on and sort the problems as off to the Classic Boldor next weekend and don't fancy having to bump start it?

It`s nothing to do with the starter motor itself. They never go wrong in my experience. The starter sprag is worn out & you need a new one & possibly a drive wheel as well. This is in the primary chaincase so easy to get to. Derek.

I had this problem when my commander was first built and it was the cage on the sprag was broken. The sprag is the same as the commando one you just have to remove three clips that the commando seems to need.Dave Green
