Does the Classic share its dash with any other rotaries?

Post by James »

Does the Classic share its dash and indicator lights with any other rotaries? I could use a better one.

Hi James,
I think the instrument panel was unique to Classic's 'cos almost all the other air cooled rotary Nortons either went to the police,RAC, military or other government institutions and had a different setup,(and of course the water cooled bikes were entirely different)so I expect you will be stuck with what you have smiley.
No doubt if I am wrong we will soon hear about it wink, ride safe,J.B.

The Interpol 2 was the same as the Classic although the ignition key was sometimes on the fairing and the calibrated speedo fitted to the Police model was different. The tacho may have been slightly different too, although it was a variant of the same basic item.

I have been thinking of upgrading the dash lights with higher power LED equivalents to make the warning lights more visible in daylight. Yet to try this though...

I took the dash apart on my IP2 to try and address this exact issue. I found that the lenses were actually painted underneath to give the different colours! Article in the last issue of Epitrochoid explained it, but if you missed it, I basically scraped the paint off then cut up small pieces of coloured plastic and stuck the top piece with the writing back on over the. LED bulbs might work though instead. Good luck.
Here's the mod I did:
