Misfire with electrical load
Hi all, a new problem has appeared on IP2. It had now developed a misfire with any electrical load, which if left on can lead to a stall. The battery is charging at around 14v. I have changed the voltage regulator. for a spare as a precaution. No fault there. The battery is only a couple of months o...

Re: IP2 Revcounter
Hi JoeI am using a voltage control unit which does not have the yellow wire going into the box it self. I have tried this now connected directly to one phase of the alternator. The Rev counter works but looks like I now have a charging issue.

Re: IP2 Revcounter
Sorry I know this is an old topic but I wanted to prove that I have searched the forum. I now have the interpol running and have been using her as a daily commute. This weekend I reconnected the Rev counter (alternator driven) and low and behold I now have an apparent 12v supply issue . The bike sta...

Re: Continuing woes if a poor running interpol
Update Today finally got the bike back on the road and bar some carb adjustment she's running well so what did I find?1) perished and cracked pipe on the oil scavenge causing air leaks2) air leaks around the transfer port on both sides3) wiring fault on the coil feed earthing the coilsThe rest has b...

Re: Continuing woes if a poor running interpol
Thanks for the recommendation for Minimag. My box is on its way there now (I've also been offered a new one which I still might need.) It's important for me to know if this one has a fault as it's part of the diagnosis process for ever increasing poor start. Currently there is no spark on either plu...

Re: Continuing woes if a poor running interpol
Thanks Tony I will add the trigger to the list of questionable items. Tonight I was trawling through the family garage (aka dad's garage) when I found a new sparkrite ignition box all wrapped up! Result. I kind of remember buying this in the early nineties either from the factory when the bike was r...

Continuing woes if a poor running interpol
OK so having fixed the frame insert and the oil drain. The bike has turned from poor hot start to notice start. Further investigation reveals no spark at either plug. Having trawled the forum i have wired the sparkrite box directly to +ve and -ve and finally disconnected the advance box all to no av...

Carbon in the frame.
As the engine work continues could somebody explain to me the mechanism under which carbon granules get into the fame. They are only on the side walls. The oil is clean and there is no sludge. There is also no sign of grey paste in the transfer port, which I take to be a good thing. I have had probl...

Re: ip2 Threaded insert on frame failed
Thanks for the suggestions. In the end I've gone with epoxy resin. My only worry now is ensuring that it doesn't flake off and get ingested but I think it will be ok. Paul

ip2 Threaded insert on frame failed
Hi anybody got any experience with repairing the Threaded inserts in the box section frame on an interpol 2? One of the inserts holding the carb on has failed . I'm currently looking at M8 riv nuts but l think they need to be air tight or am I wrong? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Re: IP2 oil Scavenger pipe
Thanks for the help. I'm not sure what has happened on mine but the thread seemed too long ( maybe a nylon washer has disintegrated ) anyway I've now used a washer and spring washer to get the correct spacing and all seems well. Please note this is only where the connector passes through the frame n...

IP2 oil Scavenger pipe
Whilst checking over the fuel system today I found that the vacuumed pipe from the oil scavenge pipe to the intake had dissappear. This I believe is the cause of excessive smoke on start up. It may be contributing to my misfire. Whilst trying to fix this I noticed that the Scavenger pip itself was v...

Re: Fuel Probs
Hi I'm currently suffering with fuel problems. I suspect that a misfire I have is down to fuel starvation or air being pulled in. What was the symptom when the diaphragm and o rings failed? Thanks for the help.Paul

cranking voltage IP2
Sorry if this is an old post but I remember in the dim and distant past someone posting that if the cranking voltage dropped below 10v on an IP2 with spark right ignition controller then the output to the coils would be switched off. I have been having some start problems with my ex police bike sinc...

Re: Melted Fuse.
Basicaly poor connection equals high resistance equals heat. I would check all connectors including adjacent fuses. Also have a look at the wiring insulation and check for damage or signs of overheating ( hard wire or melted insulation )

Re: Spark plugs and hot start
Ok I'll give redx a try. The engine starts very well cold and hot. Part warm seems to be an issue, the engine does not smoke, there is no chuffing noise and performance seems good. Plugs are not sooty. Idle quality is very good thefore no obvious misfire. Is it possible to do a leak down check on a ...

Re: Spark plugs and hot start
The problem is that this engine was reconditioned by Norton in the early 90's and still had this symptom. Used to have the obligatory bag of plugs then but never really solved the problem. A friend who worked for the police seems to remember that this was a problem with the bikes then as well.

Ok Norton IP2 back on the road again after a very long lay-up. Bike is running well but an old problem has resurfaced. Hot start problems!!I used to think that this was a battery issue but I am now thinking that this may be a coil issue or a problem with the surface discharge plugs. I am now thinkin...

Ok so while I was waiting for the rest of the brake kit I thought I would charge the battery and try the electrics. All seem ok, I wonder if the starter motor works? All ok. I wonder if the choke is jammed? The bike started after about 10 seconds! God bless SU carbs.
