What's happened to our forum ?

Post by Richard Negus »

I feel I'm as guilty as anyone - but what happened to discussion on the site ? Doesn't anyone want to talk about anything, post a picture or two of their bike, a 'where's this?' photo, or suggest an informal meet ?\rIs it perhaps something to do with the appalling number of p*rn sites that invade every week ? Is it possible to filter these out before they're on the Memberlist ? Try looking at www.ybw.com (my other hobby) or at www.vvoc.com (nerdy lot, but useful tech info there) for very lively sites. Even exile-rotorsport, which appears to run the same hosting, doesn't suffer the same intrusions - is it just a press of the appropriate key ?\rI do understand and appreciate the effort put in by Graham and David in setting up the site - so c'mon rotaristas, use it or lose it ! \rMoan over.\rR.

I am also at a loss as to why the ROC is being targetted by (largely Russian) porn sites, cheap cigarttes and viagara sellers; between us, Graham and I must delete an average of 5 or 6 A DAY!!! ... but as to the apathy, I guess it reflects society? For example, you had 10 viewings so far to your comments Richard, but no-one felt the need to reply. \r\rI have no idea why - nor really what to do about it. Are we a club of voyeurs?\r\rReading the same few regular contributors can be tedious - but if the other 40 or so refuse to offer anything? .... any ideas anyone?

My reason for not adding anything to this forum is simply that I don't have a P.C. I have access to a shared computer at work and do look at the site quite frequently but I never seem to find the time to reply. My grammar, spelling and punctuation are very poor so I need to find time to sit down and think what I'm going to reply so that it maked sence.\r\rCheers, Joe.

We get the same spammers registering on Exile. I've just been removing them as soon as they join. It's painful and i'm sure there are better solutions out there - just need to find the time to search phpbb.com for an answer. I think there is a programme called ACPI anti-spam that works well with phpbb. I'll get round to looking into it one day \r\rOn saying that you can use the ban control to block certain e-mail addresses. If you get lots of Russian stuff block -

Code: Select all

*@*.ru
\r- this will block anyone joining with a Russian e-mail addy. I have about 10 different commonly used ones banned on Exile. It saves a bit of work! :D
