Commander pump seal

Just looking through the manual for the Commander.... this might be stupid question time... but, the water pump seal... where is the seal formed?

I presume the idea is to stop the water getting into the bearings?

So is the seal formed around the spring part seal and the internal bore of the casting? or is the seal formed between the large diameter casing of the seal and the outer edge of the casting?

If any of that makes sense....

"It’s a mechanical seal with a carbon/ceramic seal which is the main sealing face, also where the seal presses into the pump housing, it is important to use wellseal or silicon here otherwise water will leak past. Where the seal passes over the shaft is a tight fit and care needs to be taken when fitting the seal, it is recommended to use a special drift, a good quality grease is recommended in this area"

Thanks for the reply, that all makes sense.

I've attached a photo/diagram which I think sums up what you are saying.

If you take the light blue area as being the water pump housing, the red is the silicon and the grey area would be the carbon/ceramic face of the seal which would go up against the bearing .

The seal is the wrong way round, the brass looking section presses into the pump housing.

Glad you pointed that out... That is they way that I have replaced my pump seal, with the brass section into the casing.

I guess that the drawing in the manual is the wrong way round

What seal did people use I need three ?

Andover Norton have all F1 and Commander parts for the pump in stock now or being made so everything back in stock to full standard parts condition.
