clutch plates sticking

hi al clutch plates sticking on my commander just another long shot is there a way to free it off in situ the normal piston way of bang it in gear and clutch in roll back and forward dont work
iknow you may probbaly say stripping is best way to see condition but just trying to take for run prior to perhaps stripping and molly this wintereither this or restoring my mv agusta in my kitchen
also looking for cheap basket case classic not interpol
wish i had bought classic instead of commander loads of fibreglass to paint but will be something else agian when ive finished it

Has the clutch ever been free?

If No strip it

If Yes, first check that the clutch actuating mechanism is correctly set, you might just be able to free it up by bump starting the bike pull in the clutch and use both brakes to try to stop the bike thus freeing the clutch

Either way its not a big job why not just get it to bits and clean each plate with scotch bright and brake cleaner

hi anthony clutch always been stuck so its a strip down guess ill need clutch compressor looks simple enough

Yep, you will need a clutch compressor,It is easy enough,but do take care as fingers can be lost,'(cos the pressure on the plates is somewhat fierce)J.B.

what i want to know is do i smear the plates with oil before inserting or do they go in dry

I've put clutches back on a number of occasions and never thought to smear them with oil (seeing as they would get well oiled the first time the clutch was engaged)but if it makes you feel better go for it Very HappyJ.B.

clutch rebuilt and working fine puzzles me though plates came out freely yet clutch didnt work but anyway it is now

If it's where it the two faces meet,a good Gasket goo should fix it,(so long as both faces are nice and smooth and not buckled or damaged )J.B.

Morning John I hope you are keeping well.

Looking at the pump there is a small O Ring at position approx. 11 o'clock and a larger O Ring at approx. 5 O'clock that's it no other joints or O Rings I have never found it necessary to use any silicon or anything like.

hi all
it was leaking from the outside round plate with the four bolts in, why they never used gaskets in owt i will never know, anyway ived removed cover cleaned both side and siliconed will refill tomorrow

Trev,
There should be an O-ring cord sitting in the groove in the primary cover. Leave the gap at the 12 o'clock position.
The round cover has a tapered outside which compresses the O-ring as the four screws are tightened.
