interpol 2 gearbox oil
hello everyone does anybody know where 80w/140 gearbox oil is available from? after talking to Pete yesterday he was telling me that NML was out of stock , Graham recomends Putoline sae 80 synthetic racing gear oil,but as far as i am aware silkolene only offers a 140 rhino but no one i can find stocks this stocks this either (as my local warehouse does not stock the Putoline brand )or is everyone else using ep 80 90 ? any suggestions welcomed as its stopping me finally getting the thing fired up ............thanks Andy!!!
Re: interpol 2 gearbox oil
I have always used straight Castrol EP 140 which I obtain from agriculture engineering suppliers. A firm called Doe has branches around the country. I have also used Putoline 80. Derek.
Re: interpol 2 gearbox oil
Hi, RortyI have used Silkolene SRG 75 fully synthetic gear oil since it was tested on 2 Derbyshire bike with good results until both bikes were written off!I still have the test results from the samples which indicate the amount of gear wear by the component particles, which I suppose could be quite interesting to boffins.Malc

I use Bel-Ray Gear Saver 85W140 and that should be available from any good motorcycle shop or ATV stockist. Best I could find at a non bank busting price

Re: interpol 2 gearbox oil
I've come to the conclusion that EP is too sticky. I've tried a few commonly available types of the EP 75 to 90 types. All result in poor neutral selection and a klonky gearchange. Having been off the road for three years I forgot what I had learned (oh dear!) and refilled with Castrol EP80. Found it wasn't too good, so for interest I added some Lucas oil stabiliser which is very sticky to see what the effect would be. That made things worse so I've changed it for Castrol Manual SMX-S which is a synthetic oil at SAE75W-85. I've on;ly done a few miles but it seems easy neutral is back again, selection of first is in with a slight click and changes in between are nicer. By the way my gearbox is pretty noisy, especially third. Does anyone have any views on EP140 V straight 140?Johnny.
