Help please problem with my F1

Post by litoskin »

Help Please i have a problem with my F1. Sorry for my poor english but i'm italian and i don't speak english very good.....ti have my f1 since 2005 an it always run good. Today i went out for a travel of about 70 miles....I stopped in the middle of the travel and all was good....Coming back home about 5 miles near home i started hearing a different engine noise....I arrive at home and the bike was running good even at idle but under the bike i have seen some oil coming down....I immediately stop the engine and dismounted the left fairing panel of my F1 and i have seen that the oil was coming out from a tube that transport the 2 stroke oil from the oil pump to the inside of the engine. When i touched the other tube immediately also that broke too....It seems the plastic 90 degrees connector has become fragile and destroyed by the age. It seems that the plastic/rubber has become like sand , now i must find new connectors or change them with different ones....I'm very worried about the damage the engine could have taken running without oil.....I really don't know how many miles i have done with one broken oil tube( i hope less than 5 but i'can't be sure) ....in F1 Wankel engine what parts of engine is lubricated by that oil ? before going to carburators and go inside combustion chamber what lubricated before ? What could i have damaged? i will not turn on the engine untill i fave fixed the oil connection...but after that... What i need to control? before shutting down the engine it seems it was running good but with a bigger noise (not too much ) than normal....When you reply please wirite in a simple way or i can't understand....Thank you very much for the help....Here in Italy for what i know we have no specialist about Norton rotary engines....regards Marco

Marco,

Running any engine without oil is not good, I run a Commander and have no experience of F1's, Richard Negus who often responds to questions on this forum is the only person I know who has the knowledge you need, you could try sending him a private message.

Good luck and please keep the forum advised of how you resolve your problem.

I see from the latest Epitrochoid, that Mauro Borella has re-joined. You DO have a contact in Italy, how close by ,I don't know. Mauro and Giovanni Cabassi took the trouble to bring F1's to the UK for a big event at Mallory many years ago. They are enthusiasts for sure. Subject to data protection, I'm sure the ROC can put you in touch somehow.
Those 90 deg elbows are available, I got some off ebay, classic car distributor vacuum pipe connectors.

Regards, Terry.

Marco I replaced the broken fittings with high quality silicon hose which I more flexible and heat proof. It fits on the Stubbs on the engine and over the existing pipe.
