Re: Where was I ?
Would I be correct in thinking that this is a road bridge, that once was a railway AND road bridge, the rails set in the roadway like tram tracks? If so, I have a sneaking feeling I might know where it is...Yours in colour,DC
Re: Where was I ?
I think I might know too. Maybe a few miles north from London, perhaps...

Re: Where was I ?
I think you may be in mind of a similar place. This one had a vehicle ferry (only) up to 1975 when the bridge opened. A branch line, long gone, passed very close but not across. Re: Where was I ?
OK, I'll go for it.It's the Connell Bridge, once a rail-only bridge (till 1975, so well after Beeching) that was on the line from Connell and Oban to Ballachulish near Glencoe. At least, I think so.There you go, stuck my neck out...Ian

Re: Where was I ?
Half right, it's certainly a bridge ! There was a branch line that went past the ????? Bridge to serve the slate quarry further up.R.Ian wrote:OK, I'll go for it.It's the Connell Bridge,Ian

Re: Where was I ?
If I may be so bold, I would suggest it is the Ballachulish bridge on the A82. Ian was warm, but just a wee but too far south.

I shall be round for my coconut as soon as I have fixed the pin hole in the petrol tank of the Interplod, which has left a nice white streak down the engine casing. In the meantime, I believe it is my privilege to post the next challenge.Keeping with the bridge theme, my initial thoughts were:
Much too easy as the banner gives it away. Then I thought: But then I thought this one was way too obscure.I finally settled on: This is a well known bridge, photographed from an unusual perspective. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

The wildest of guesses, since there aren't too many clues - the old bridge, now by-passed, at Donington circuit ?R.rustynuts wrote:This is a well known bridge, photographed from an unusual perspective.

Well I know the first one but the other two are well beyond my limited thought process

Re: Where was I ?
It's a few miles south of Donnington circuit and predates it by a couple of milennia. The very narrow cross section may give a clue to what once crossed it.The wildest of guesses, since there aren't too many clues - the old bridge, now by-passed, at Donington circuit ?R.
Re: Where was I ?
I am not familiar with it but could it be Essex Bridge, Staffordshire or Sutton, Bedfordshire?

Oui monsieur, il a porter l'eau à travers une vallée d'un fleuve. What did the Romans ever do for us? Well, they built this brige, or more like three briges, one on top of another.

Re: Where was I ?
50 years ago, it was a nightmare on a summer's Sunday evening. The only road crossing for miles, single track and traffic lights too, but on a summer evening it was covered in lights - very pretty.Go there now and you'll miss it completely.

Re: Where was I ?
I think this one is not far from me. Built by Thomas Telford alongside a wrought iron box girder rail bridge if I am not mistaken and bypassed by a newer road bridge and tunnel.
Re: Where was I ?
Correction it's neighbour is classed as wrought iron tubular rail bridge completed in 1849 by Robert Stephenson or was it George Stephenson, depending which site you believe, and it is the only one remaining in the UK. Of the other two one was destroyed by fire and the other demolished. There is a nice photo of the three bridges together from the Castle athttp://www.beenthere-donethat.org.uk/conwy12big.htmlTRL wrote:I think this one is not far from me.
