My "Sign Off"
Browsing through this months copy of "Roadholder" there is an article by one "Lance Crossley" who has the temerity to sign himself off with "Ride Safe"(Obviously nothing is sacred ,)J.B.

Then you must tell him John, that as an adverb, it should of course be ‘Ride Safely!’ ....

Quite right David. As a fellow member of the ROC grammar committee, I agree standards must be upheld. It's as bad as using a preposition to end a sentence with.
Then there are commas and apostrophes.....

OK,but "Be Safely" doesn't sound right,whereas "Be Safe" does,so why not "Ride Safe"? J.B.

Because ‘ride’ is is verb .... a ‘doing’ word .... and an adverb describes how the verb is done .... and usually ends in ‘LY’.... eg/ quickly, slowly, safely, noisily, busily, etc you get the picture?
In ‘be safe’ I would consider ‘safe’ to be an adjective?
