Richard Negus ?
Richard Negus ?
Anyone know how Richard is ?
There has been some horrendous tales of his health over the last year or so (and other rather disturbing domestic issues). I believe he is in a nursing home , I rang again today but the landline number still seems cut off and I never arrived without prior agreement.
It seems a great shame he seems forgotten about. I last visited him around 3 years ago ( ish, maybe longer ), he seemed OK and still very interested in our Rotary bikes and the technology.
Anyone more in touch or more informed of his situation ?
Regards all,
Terry.

Re: Richard Negus ?
The last mail I had back from Richard was in August 2023, I was aware of his health issues.
There are a number of people on this forum who are closer to Richard than I suggest we post on the Rotary Club FB page asking for any news someone might know, I will post something now.

Just checked , his house is currently for sale, not going back from the nursing home then ?. Unknown where he is, I asked someone from Andover at Stafford last October and was given the Data protection/can't say anything routine.

Very frustrating that ANL have the view that Richards friends, because that's what we are, are not allowed to know where he is.
Re: Richard Negus ?
For sure, but I think there is personal info on his health and other issues that it would not be correct to discuss openly with others. I spoke to someone late last year who knew about his situation and it's a dismal tale. Like him or not, the poor guy has suffered and it appears the club who looked up to him so much - for obvious reasons - does'nt appear to be in touch .
Perhaps someone is and also declines to say what things are ? It would be understandable.
Without wishing his early demise, I would not like to hear he had "gone" without any attendance from Norton owners, especially Rotaries.
Hopefully, someone who knows him really well and kept in touch might let us know how he is.

Richard still receives a (complimentary) copy of the club newsletter, to keep him in touch.
Like others, I have not heard from him in a while.

Unhappily,I appears to be a case of " Crossed Fingers" &"Watch This Space",J.B.
Re: Richard Negus ?
I can now advise club members with a very brief summary that Richard, in his early eighties, moved last year from Lincolnshire to the Shrewsbury area where he is in a residential care home following a couple of falls. Visited daily by his wife and daughter so in good hands although he does have some health issues.

Re: Richard Negus ?
Thanks Terry,
I know it is quite irrelevant, but I am almost certain that Richard must be in his late eighties by now.
How I know this is because in the late '90s I went sailing with him on his yacht, and was quite surprised to find out that he was a couple of years older than me (and I will be 85 this April) J.B.

Terry,
Thank you for the update regards Richard and his current situation, as you will have seen I asked the FB page for information and received just three responses, either they didn't know or were keeping it confidential, understandable in the circumstances. Old age comes to us all, I am pleased to hear that he is being well cared for and receiving visits from family, from personnel experience it will be a difficult time for them and Richard.

Re: Richard Negus ?
Shocked to hear this sad news, there will be many people like me who without Richards help would have struggled to work on Norton Rotaries, although I never met Richard we spoke often on the phone and shared e-mails concerning my Commander. One problem in particular had me and others guessing as to what was wrong, a brief e-mail to Richard who without hesitation diagnosed a worn needle roller bearing, as usual he was spot on.
The last mail I had from Richard was in August 2023 when he shared some information concerning his health issues, sadly that mail was the last time I heard from him
Richard will be remembered for much more than his Rotary knowledge, a gifted engineer and a helpful and generous person.
Sad news indeed, Richard will be sorely missed.
