Brake hoses

Post by colcoleman »

I just fitted goodrich brake hoses to the front of my Commander. I read on some discussion list somewhere that Yamaha fit their hoses so they are crossed over at the top. The connector seem to be angled for this to happen and when I tried it it made a nice neat job. When the suspension was bounced the hoses seemed to flex in a way that put less stress on the hoses. What I didn't appreciate was the length of the suspension travel. On the first run I went into the mountains. After hitting a couple of serious potholes which jarred the spine and rattled teeth the front brake started to feel strange. Then it came alright again but I thought I would take my time. After a couple more applications I lost the brake. Made it to somewhere I could look at it safely. I found the suspension travel had caused the mudgaurd yolk to sqaush the new hoses against the bar where the brake connection is, and caused one to leak. I rode slowly home, about 20mls through the mountains.
