Front wheel spindle

Hi all
After puting new forks and yoke bearings on my commander on the parts manual it sbows the spindle being pushed through from right to left looking from front of bike speedo to right side on the left theres a bush that goes slightly into wheel which is also a spacer where im lost and should have taken photo which i usually do theres the nut and a washer is this for the outside nut or inside between the fork leg and spacer which would seem a little silly as you would just make wider spacer

What i call the bush is called a collar in the psrts manual

Hi Trev,
It doesn't really matter which way the spindle goes into the forks and the washer is always under the nut. The Parts Catalogue, copied from the Yamaha original, shows the spindle going in from the near-side.

I find it easier to assemble the wheel single-handed by fitting the spindle from the off-side, leaving the fiddly job of aligning the speedo gearbox with its drive tongues and the stop on the fork leg until last.

Hi anthony
I know i have a norton ppsrts book but it deosent show in which position they go the washer in the drawing could be left or right of the slider as it dosent show the slider
There are other things like this ive come across in parts manual

I see what you mean, as a rule of thumb washers always go under a nut.

The purpose of the washer is to avoid the nut binding on the fork leg

Pardon me, I've just woken up!
The threaded end of the spindle, and the washer, are both 14 mm so it would be difficult for the washer to be fitted to the 'wrong' side of the fork leg where the spindle is, I believe, 15 mm.

I see what your saying richard but somebody before me used a lsrger washer which fitted alo g the full length of the spindle it has been changed now i had put the washer under the nut but knowing these old bike firms who knows
