Torque values for bolting the brake disc to the PVM rim.

Post by holger999 »

Today I wanted to fit a new brake disc.
I urgently need the torque values for screwing the brake disc onto the PVM rim.

According to my workshop manual General Data section last page Brake Disc to Wheel Screws the torque setting is 14 Lb/Ft 2.0 Kg/m.

The type of loctite grade is not listed however it could be 648 High temperature retention, it will be your choice.

Hello,

Thank you for the information.

Is there a page where all the torque values of the F1 Sport are listed?
or can you copy them here?

best regards

I think it's 20 to 30Nm for most bikes, looking in the manuals of the different bikes i have..
Bigger problem is that i came across to many bikes where they used to much loctite....

Hard to use too much loctite as any squeezing out of the joint doesn't go off.

More likely to be the wrong grade. The high strength varieties are strong and bonding area in a thread is considerable. Folk in general have no feel for the relative strengths of strong point fastenings, like bolts, and weaker adhesive bonds over large areas. Heck I can do the maths. But have a feel for it. No way.

Loctite technical literature is pretty good on the engineering side but sucks at the "feel for what is going on" side. Back in the day I had a vac student reach for "Studlock" to hold 2 BA bolt. Quickly re-directed to try with a simple nut just screwed on and come back after lunch. Snapped like a dried out carrot when he tried to undo it later that afternoon. Ooops.

But then who really understands how a bolt works. I know the theory and the number I've done up and undone over the years is way beyond convenient, or even inconvenient, counting. But gut level understanding of WTHIGO. Nope.

disc bolts are tightened to 14 lbs.ft and secured with Loctite 270.

Of course the type of Loctite used is very important. But the amount used is also critical. I always use a tiny drop at the end of the thread of a bolt.
But I've seen a lot of people dosing the whole bolt in the stuff...

only a small drop at the end of the screw, of course.

But my other question:

Do any of you know where to find all the torque specifications for the
for the Norton F1 Sport/TT?
