water pump capasity

Hi guys,Can anybody tell me how much water the pump on a Commander pumps round the system?eg:gallons/pints/Ltrs per minute at say 5500 revs(motorway speeds)rgds,J.B.

Hello John,
It's not your usual question for the forum sounds a bit specialist to me.
Anyway, I assume you plan to fit an electric water pump. Kev Traynor has already done this along with a few other members such as Richard Negus so why not tap them up for details, maybe not Richard just yet as he's getting over a serious operation.
Kev has a Commander engine in a Kawasaki ZZR400 (or similar) frame and uses an electric water pump, he's very helpful. Sadly though he's not an ROC member anymore but his brother Steve is.

Hi JB, the water pump is no more than an impeller on a shaft supported by bearings attached directly to the rotor shaft by means of an olham coupling. Its output is entirely determined by the speed of the engine. Think of an old fashioned car water pump driven by the fan belt. I don't know if anyone since the design stage has calculated its output per thousand revs but I doubt it. It is solely a Norton effort and not their finest hour. Not many have succeeded in fitting an electric pump due to the fact that there is nowhere to fit it on a Commander but you might find a suitable space in your classic. Even though the pump is problematical if you set up the standard item carefully it can do 15000 miles. Best of luck. Tim

Hi guys,thanks for your input.
Now I have an even bigger problem evil,'cos I had to make up a sub-frame to attach the sub-frame to support the Triumph fairing I fitted to the Classic, I am unable to use the Commander radiator,It's about an inch to wide either side,also, the room between the front mudguard and the water jacket is a bit limited to say the least( as is the height)it realy is a big old radiator wink ,so now I have to find an alternative,I have heard of two smaller rads; being fitted in place of just one large one so any info on that front would be appreciated,(and to add to my woes, the Header Tank is to big to fit anywhere inside the fairing,so ideally I want a rad: with a filler cap incorporated in it)I've spent hours today "surfing" for a rad:with little or no success,(as was the rummage round a bike breakers,)I found a couple that would have sufficed but were bit knocked about so I gave them a miss.
Other than the rad:the project has not been too problematic,a bit of "head scratching" here and there but nothing too taxing for the old brain wink,I will keep you informed of my progress,ride safe,J.B.
