Commander layshaft.

Post by NedSmart »

I think the layshaft is the same as the Triumph T140v gearbox. If it is (the gears with the exception,i think,of 1st) are the same.Richard Negus will know for sure.

Ned,Sorry to disappoint, but the layshaft assembly is not interchangeable with the Triumph item. The Norton part only comes as an assembly of layshaft, 4th and 5th gears plus the bearing sleeve which is ground after it has been pressed on.There were several changes to tooth profiles over the years making apparently identical gears non-interchangeable. The layshaft itself, however, did not change apart from material and heat treatment improvements.

Ned,Good to get positive 'feedback'.Both workshops are only 10 yards from my back door; regular tea and biscuits now, visitors included.
