commander oil catch tank

Post by NedSmart »

I want to fit a small catch tank between the lefthand manifold and frame (plenum chamber ?) so i can re-cycle the oil that usually gets burnt off.Does anyone know someone who could make a small catch tank about the size of a 12V battery (i intend to run on a single battery and put the tank on the L/H battery tray)I would supply a drawing .It would need two fuel pipe size stubs a removable cap and a drain tap.I would need to discuss cost etc Any reason why this sould not work ,or has anyone a better idea or tried something similar ???

Neil,I ran a catch tank last year - very successful.

The tank was made from a car washer bottle sold by Vehicle Wiring Products. And an Odyysey PC545 AGM battery on its end.

Paul Goff handles another US-made AGM which is the same size as the standard battery, and seems very good too. Both are 'arm 'n a leg' jobs though.Bodgerbloke in the US did something similar for his Commander. There are photos of that installation somewhere - maybe he'll post again.

Thanks for the reply. Why is it that when someone shows you their solution to a p roblem/query i always end up thinking 'why did'nt i think of that ???' (don't answer that !!) What sort of a price was the battery you fitted ??and where did you buy it ?My Commander engine is running very well since you re-built it.I still have a small fueling glitch. It can seem a bit flat pulling off tickover (a nice even 400rpm) until about 1500rpm then it goes beautifully. No great problem,i,ll look into it later on any ideas would be welcome though. Thanks, Neil.

Neil,I got that Odyysey from a battery specialist in Cannock who had one in stock. I have previously bought them from Tayna in N Wales (http://www.tayna.co.uk I think).Price inc postage was about £97. Try eBay for alternate prices. The other ones, SVR15L, I'm getting from Paul Goff (Google him) for about the same price/slighly more. They're a better fit and the terminals come in the correct place for the standard cables. Several years ago, I did have a duff Odyssey from Tayna, exchanged no problem.I'd try increasing the idle speed, 400 sounds a bit low. I normally try for 600 with a hot engine.R.
