Probably the best thing to do is talk to the plater, see if he understands motorcycle parts. Some of them will protect various internal and external threads and bolt holes, some of them will just heave everything into the tanks and you'll get to play with tap and die sets and reamers so you can re-use your parts. Chrome is HARD.Some of the chemistry is pretty harsh, so if you have any plastic windows (like an oil level sight glass), you must remove it before you give the parts to the plater or it will get dissolved or otherwise ruined. Make sure the ID of the hole it fits into is masked, or it won't fit back into the hole! Likewise for oil seals, etc - anything not steel or aluminum is going to get eaten.First step is polishing - if you have any fragile or irreplaceable parts, they need to know about it so they don't get ruined (polished the crisp edges off the fins of the head, for instance). If they seem nervous or don't seem to give much of a toss, find yourself another plater. When parts go into the tanks, they are suspended by wires, and these wires can leave witness marks and other blemishes on the chrome - invariably right where everyone can see them. I've also seen brake rods suspended by wires wrapped around the threads for the brake adjuster - tap and die set time again.LIST AND PHOTOGRAPH your parts! Remember these guys see thousands of bits and pieces every month and you want to be sure you get back the correct number of parts and they are all your parts. Give them copies of the photographs, it will help them keep track of your parts. This also provides a record and proof when bits go missing. What you DON'T want to hear is "Oh, that was yours? We gave it to the guy with the sailboat who left for Pago Pago last week. Via Somalia."You might want to ask some chopper shops or restoration shops who does their chrome work. These guys tend to be picky, and the shop they use already has experience with motorcycle parts and has already been trained by Mongo the 35 stone biker (with one big eye in the middle of his forehead) not to screw things up ;-)Best Regards,Mike in FloridaPS - same comments apply to powder coaters.

They've moved, found this on a Harley forum, "Hi, Prestige Plating have done loads of work for me. Superb quality, great service and very friendly people. There new address is Unit 6, Cliff Street Ind. Est. Mexborough, South Yorkshire, S64 9HU. Tel : 01709 577 004." Not far from me, must remember them in case I need any doing.
