The alternator on my Volvo S80 was still going fine without being touched at 240,000 miles. My current car has done 110,000 and it doesn't look like the alternator has been touched.

I would take any temperature reading from the gauge with a pinch of salt. By now you have at least 20 year's worth of wear and corrosion which will have altered the characteristic of the gauge and the thermocouple. Well, it has caused all the Petseal in my fuel tank to flake away and expose several leaks. Other than that it would be potentail failure of any non compatible rubber or plastic components in the fuel system. Ethanol resistant carburetor floats are now available from SU.

I bought my IP2 from the same seller. Nice chap. Like he says in his advert, he does indeed have too many projects on his plate, but won't be too heart broken if it doesn't sell.

I believe the theory is that as they heat up, the resins in the brake compound can vapourise and cause the brake pad to float on a cushion of gas. Holes in the disk provide a vent path. Modern good quality brake compounds are supposed to be less susceptible to giving off gas when hot.
