Re: now classic owner

It used a Glow Plug. The original idea was to use a Turbocharger, an Aerodyne. Eventually they found a good match with a (Custom Built?) model 53000. They wound up with a lot of non-Turbo work looking at generators rather than drones. This was a fun SAE Paper. The Paper does reference Norton Motors. ...

Re: Mazda Rotaries

Sorta' wished I'd put this in...Mazda's SAE paper explored a Pilot/Main Injection Series. It was decided that the Pilot Cavity was to be 12 ccm firing through a 5 mm shoot hole. The fuel would shoot into the chamber with a vaporization of enough of the fuel in the cavity to ignite and carry the plum...

A year or so ago, one of the suits 'splained that they would have to sell 100,000+ a year to commit to it and no study they had told them that they could sell that many over the Long Haul, so, no RX- Y for the future. However, they keep allocating funds for more research. My guess is an internal corp...

Welcome! It's a bit of a "Good News--Bad News" situation.Good News: Most of the parts are out there, although things like "turn indicators" were 1975 RE-5 specific and MUCH harder to find.Bad News: Jess Stockwell ran Rotary Recycle out of Tullahoma, Tennessee - until a coupla' mon...

Re: Morning all from an RE5 owner

Actually, Cycle mag stated that the RE-5 was the first Japanese M/C that actually handled properly.I could never induce a wobble. However, I have it on good authority that the rear swing arm bushings were a weak point, a cost cutting feature. With upgraded rear shocks and attention to detail, the RE...

Re: Morning all from an RE5 owner

That looks very nice, I thought the Re5 had its instruments in a cylindrical pod or is that the early models? The 1975 RE-5M had the odd design. After sales of the M fell off the table, Suzuki redesigned the outer instruments and turn signals, replacing them with more a traditional offerings. They a...

One of the great Proofs of the Correctness of the Norton Design was the lack of motoring friction that came from the use of Roller Bearings and the Air-Kooled Rotor (Damn Smilies, again...). Hello everyone-Sometime ago - The Pleistocene Era, I believe - the NVT Group allowed a select few journalists to test one of the Norton Rotary Mules. Are Rotary Engines Supposed to be Produced?

1. Sometimes I write things and it may appear as if I'm deprecating or downgrading the subject. 'Tis not my intention. I mentioned that the NSU 871 was developed and that few cared. Now, I know that many involved with the various Rotary Projects cared. Some have stated that "No one cared" ...

Minor Unfinished History-1.
