Norton rotary scanned technical info
Hi everyone, I've bought myself a high speed scanner.:-) For fun the first try is a copy of a large folder with a lot of technical information on the development of the F1 and RCW engines. If anyone is interested I have many engineering drawings, technical data sheets etc. I am very happy to share w...

Re: Commander headlight
The F1,F1 sport, and Commander usually have a flat beam, as used in America.
This doesn't illuminate the near side as well as a left or right dip but is OK to use in most countries.

Hello Dave, Wonderful to hear from you. Glad to be alive against the odds :-). Well, I created the site all those years ago, I'm so pleased to come back, probably 10 years later to see it still doing what I hoped it would : Carry on without me. I DO need people like yourself, willing to put in the o...

Re: W2000 bhp
In my limited knowledge of the DKW/ Hercules 294cc rotary, the compression ratio has never changed from 7.5 to one. Later engines (Black tank bikes), had a mikuni pump to provide 2 stroke oil instead of the pre-mix of the 'red tank' machines. I don't think the yellow tank prototypes were much differ...

Re: Who sells oil for rotary Nortons?
It's funny really, I created the forum to help norton rotary riders, We do keep silkolene rotary oil in stock, but cannot compete with the R.O.C delivery by friends system. Startrights is here if you get stuck, but please DO support the rotary owners club oil scheme. The few pounds we make on 4 litre...

Re: Classic No11 on ebay
Air cooled endplates are cast using an alloy that can withstand some pretty serious abuse, certainly a good deal more resilient than the much softer water cooled endplates.A good running air-cooled may not need moly coating. BUT!! All water cooled engines are cast using a different alloy, it's softe...

Re: F1 Sport clutch judder
I was told that Norton used to bead blast the plates to pacify customers who complained of the evil take up. But the fix only lasted 500 miles or so: Only one employees comments, never had chance to confirm. Ducati are worse, they simply say; Worth reducing the load on the diaphragm by replacing the...

It CAN and WILL survive without members who don't thi...

Yes,For £175 per face, including 20% VAT I will take your endplates to a local engineer in Leeds, between us, we have written a CNC program to machine the trochoid shape at 0.6mm depth. I will then send off a batch of endplates to be metal sprayed and machined by the company that Norton Motors relie...

Regular batch moly coating every 3 to 4 weeks.I need to keep the numbers up to keep the price down, machining the plates is the variable but I'll hold the price regardless.£175 per face including VAT.Graham.graham@startright.co.ukAnd.. it's not a hobby! and I'm not retired

Re: Filling rotor chambers with oil laying up
Never been an exact science for me,Leave the plugs out, put the bike in top gear, a couple of squirts from an oil can down each plug hole and turn the engine using the back wheel to spread the oil round. You can tell there's enough oil in there because it starts dripping out of the joint between the ...

Re: IP2 air bypass pipes
In order to minimise the hesitation problems when you twist the throttle to set off, especially on Commanders. I specified a reduction in the maximum retard on 'my' (Julian Kemp did all the hard work) Ignition boxes. It often results in a slightly uneven idle, but in my opinion it's worth sacrificin...

The F1 parts book (Hand drawn by Richard) shows a DN part number DN.0314.P55.That means the RD350LC type master cylinder was modified. The modification was simply to machine Yamaha off the lid :-)Sadly, the original RD350LC master cylinder is no longer available new , you'll have to find a used one,...
