Re: Classic at auction.

Hi John,I think Bob Rowley personally road tested every one of the Classics, covering somewhere between 10 and 20 miles. It is quite possible that a slave speedo was used on this bike and a new, zero miles, one fitted at the buyer's request after the bike had been passed off. Yes, every classic also...

Re: Thai crash test Interpols

This post reminded me about the test at Girling Track , Tony Dennis is holding the bike, the two Guys on our Left are I believe TRLL men, and not happy when I could not clear the anti lock brakes, my stopping distance actually increased even on the very low mu surface, when compared to having normal...

Re: Replacing exhaust

Yes, stainless is an absolute must. I remember circa 1968 ( BSA) running a steel exhaust with brazed joints, and if it was not for the school bus holding me up at the factory gate, I may have got a few hundred yards on mileage prior to the exhaust falling off completely. And to my shame will always ...

Wayne,Can you send a Photo? The words could be sv, cc .Did you say that 3500 is on the plate, this could be the RPM for the static noise test? we conducted noise test at Cadwell park, as we was trying to correlate the engine RPM to the sliding apex seal speed / conventional piston engine sliding spee...

Re: one for Richard Jo or Bob

Wayne,The swept volume was worked out as follows 3*Sqrt 3 * R * e * WR , e & W is found by the scrutineer measuring the major axis and the minor axis and the housing width. Sqrt 3 = 1.73205 3 * 1.73205 = 5.19615 constant true for all Epitrochoidal Rotary Engines.Major Axis say 16.62 cm & Min...

Re: The mystery of the disappearing apex seal pin springs

Sorry, should say corner bolt spring. these did break and parts escaped, when you rebuild ensure that the corner bolt flat base hole in the rotor is sufficient to allow the corner bolt ( seal) to travel below the rotor side face. Bob

Re: The mystery of the disappearing apex seal pin springs

The clue could be in the last remaining part of the seal, look at the ends of the spring under a say a 10x loupe and see if the end/s are chamfered, I have seen seal's worn down but never totally disappear. And I take it that the springs are not baked flat to the underside of the apex seal?Bob

Re: FAST IDLE ( but about clutch drag)

John,Clutching at straws. If you are on the centre stand in first at say 1000 rpm, when you clutch in and brake (rear) when you let the brake off does the wheel start to spin up again, most did this to a greater or less degree, if it is really powerfull with clutch lifted fully then I would suspect a...

WayneOf course I spotted the 24 year old typing error, just as I hit the submit button, Lets say that the average that a road machine will be 45mph then 70000/45 = 1555.6 not 15555.6 Hours of which 30% is at peak power 467 Hours say & 1089 say at cruise loadBob

Re: FAST IDLE ( clutch drag)

This thread seems to be about clutch drag, so this is what my post is about. The clutch drag can be tested without the engine running, put machine on it's centre stand rear wheel off the ground place say a 5 kg weight onto the rear tyre so the wheel tries to reverse, then try to disengage bottom gear...

Re: Head shakes.

Not all Norton’s did this, it was part of our pass off test to check the Head Shake, to see if it would self start, if it did not we would thump the handlebar to get it started and see if it self stopped, at MIRA we would hands off at 100 mph and study when the shake started, some at around 70 mph d...

The stroke volume is given by the difference between the maximum and minimum values of the volume of the working chamber,The volume of the working chamber can be approximately calculated in practically sufficient accuracy by taking R1 = R+aR1= 71.5 mm ( R= 69 mm + a=2.5 mm ) : e= 11.6 mm ( shaft thr...
