Re: Injector Oil for W2000

Roy,
That in the black plastic containers looks to be the correct stuff, just more than ten years old and before Silkolene marketing screwed around with the brand names. I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Re: Injector Oil for W2000

Take care with Silkolene oils for rotaries as the name of that oil changed several years ago when they wished to use the 'Comp' brand for a range of four stroke oils.
Their rotary oil is now known as Classic 2T Premix, comes only in a metal 4 litre can, and is reddish-brown in colour.

Re: police pannier hump

don't worry about the pannier/radio box alignment - and a bead of rtv between then will stop rainwater getting in. Panniers and suspension units are somewhat 'adjacent', corrected by the lower brackets on the lifting handles. The three holes in the seat base had moulded hard rubber mushrooms, fixed ...

No, I meant the triangular bracket you haven't got. They should point towards the front of the bike and not as I've sketched it.

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure I drew the hinge arm bracket back-to-front.

Re: police pannier hump

Five minutes searching the AN stock list:-

92.2360 Hinge bracket l/h £5.92 + VAT
92.2361 Hinge bracket r/h £5.92 + VAT

There wasn't published parts list for the P52, just my hand-written one used by purchasing and assembly. I doubt there are any copies remaining.

Re: police pannier hump

Despite opinions above, the flat triangular plates are ( or were) bolted to the frame with M6 screws and Avdel inserts in the frame. All Commander, P52 and 53, have those holes and inserts.
I don't have a P52 parts list so can't tell you the part number of the plate to check whether AN have stock.

Re: clutch plates sticking

Trev,
There should be an O-ring cord sitting in the groove in the primary cover. Leave the gap at the 12 o'clock position.
The round cover has a tapered outside which compresses the O-ring as the four screws are tightened.

Re: Front wheel spindle

Pardon me, I've just woken up!
The threaded end of the spindle, and the washer, are both 14 mm so it would be difficult for the washer to be fitted to the 'wrong' side of the fork leg where the spindle is, I believe, 15 mm.

Re: Front wheel spindle

Hi Trev, It doesn't really matter which way the spindle goes into the forks and the washer is always under the nut. The Parts Catalogue, copied from the Yamaha original, shows the spindle going in from the near-side. I find it easier to assemble the wheel single-handed by fitting the spindle from th...

Re: Bias, fuel metering needle

Re: Rear brake switch cover

Paul, The original covered Brembo switch with blade terminals is nothing but a PITA for those who ride their bikes. Road dirt, salt, and water fin their way inside to cause corrosion of the terminals and the rubber diaphragm inside the switch slowly hardens, needing more & more pressure on the p...

I'm hoping someone might give us the definitive reply on which allows the greater fuel flow - central or biased.

Bias, fuel metering needle

In a previous thread "Slide Needle Removal", the subject diverged into a discussion about bias of the needle, something that I hadn't given much thought to previously. To confirm which way needles are biased in Norton carburettors, I stripped a NOS carb made by SU around 1989 to confirm. T...

Re: Slide needle removal on IP2.

John, The reason for the bias is to maintain a uniform fuel flow between needle and jet and hence a constant fuel/air mixture. There is no simple way of keeping the needle in the middle of the jet so the alternate is to have it always to one side, hence the bias. Fuel flow from a concentric needle w...

John, I wasn't avoiding the question of the correct needle guide part number. It's just that I don't know and I doubt there's anyone left that does. Burlen certainly don't have any SU records of those carbs' specification. Perhaps you could persuade Andover Norton to strip one of their old-stock car...

Re: Slide needle removal on IP2.

John,
The correct needle for ALL Norton rotaries (except F1) is NZX 4030, stamped 'AEF'.
The needle was changed several times in production so the ones you have removed my be stamped something else.
