Re: IP2 losing power

My understanding is that the amount of fuel coming out of the spray tube depends, amongst other things, on the difference in pressure between that point and that in the float chamber. No pressure difference = no fuel flow; high pressure difference = large fuel flow. The underside of the vacuum piston...

Re: IP2 losing power

Dave,I presume you didn't take the carbs off the bike? I've seen a carb that didn't work after replacement because the gasket on the inlet side was upside down and the air passage was blanked off, stopping the piston working correctly. Modern gaskets seem to be symmetrical so it doesn't matter. What ...

Re: Starting problems & Race bike

The reason the rev ounter doesn't work is because it is triggered from the left coil so it won't work until there are sparks. To be more specific, it's triggered by a feed from the 'ground, low-voltage, side of the coil. Thus, tacho doesn't work = no signal to that coil, and is an almost certain in...

Re: New speedo cable for IP2?

Type of cable depends on which speedo you have..if you still have the large 'police' speedo (which sits higher than the tacho) then I don't know of an alternate to the proper one..if you have a Veglia/Norton ("Made in France" on the face) then a Yamaha cable can be adapted to fit. Those of...

Re: Sachs KM48 Balance Weight

Hi Warren,Memory is always suspect, but my poor photocopy of the KM37/48 Workshop Manual doesn't mention a separate balance weight at the generator/fan end of the engine.I think the drive-side flywheel is deliberately out of balance, and the fan assembly instructions are quite specific regarding its...

Re: paint colour name

Most of the red ones were Candy Red, the same as used on the Commando. I've not heard of a particular specification/colour code for this, but it was a red lacquer over a silver or gold base coat. It does tend to fade significantly in direct sunlight and therefore becomes difficult to match. There wer...

Dave,Heat with a hot air gun is kinder than a flame, and less hazardous. No need to get things blue though. You've still got to break the tightening torque, but after that removal should be easy. You've got a simpler job than Tony as the flywheel restrainer holes aren't as difficult to get at.R.

Hi Tony,The same thing - slipping sprag, but since it works on the second/third attempt, it's probably not so severe and may only be sludge trapped in the sprag space.Either way, to fix it means taking the primary apart and, even if it just sludge, I'd perhaps change the sprag anyway. While you're in...

Re: IP2 Sprag clutch change

Dave,It runs against a hardened steel sleeve pressed into the clutch drum and the hardened centre boss of the starter gear and, in my experience, the problem is always with the sprag itself. The ends of the dogs wear, producing a small flat that won't engage. If the sleeve and/or starter gear is wor...
