Re: Help with Classic gas tank

I looked in my spares stock and only found Commando ones. With one of those, or even a photo, any decal shop should be able to make a smaller version for you.

Re: Help with Classic gas tank

YUK!That looks like vintage resin tank sealant (useless on an alloy tank, unless it had a pinhole leak).Difficult to remove without damaging the paint. I think you really have to take the filler neck out.Put in a handful of granite chippings and a pint of gasoline or kerosene, fit a blank disc in pl...

Re: Help with Classic gas tank

Part number is 92-0978; ANIL had more than 10 in stock early February; not the world's most popular rotary item. It's the same style as Commando item 06-4881, but about 25% smaller.R.

Re: Help with Classic gas tank

Jeff,'Fraid not- that's a compression fitting with a brass olive crimped onto the copper pipe, and probably assembled with Loctite. If you're really lucky after undoing the lower nut, you may be able to persuade the olive off the pipe. The copper pipe has a single spiral formed in it to allow for exp...

Re: Help with Classic gas tank

Jeff,Don't do it! There's a copper water drain pipe brazed to the filler neck and trapped by an olive in a screwed fitting in the bottom of the tank. Removing the neck destroys the drain pipe. - and the filler neck/drain pipe assembly is no longer available as a spare part. A new filler cap, however...

Re: RAF interpol exhausts glowing red.

Ned,Have you seen them glowing red, or relying on what the current owner says? I presume he means the manifold, not the silencers?Retarded ignition on a piston engine often blues the exhaust pipes or, in extreme cases, can make them glow red.Rotary ignitions either work normally, misfire, or don't w...

Gerry,Commander rear brake hose is from the XJ900F, 1987/1988.Yamaha part number is 31A.25895.00: ANIL might have one or two new ones left at £3.16 + post + VAT.Braided stainless replacements are available from online auction sites elsewhere at almost 10x that price.Alternatively, someone like Liste...

Re: F1 fuel valve

Siran,That's correct.Ignition ON and throttle closed, the fuel will circulate and the pumps 'ticks' continuously. Fuel feed to the carburettors is by gravity onlyIgnition ON and throttle open, the pump feeds direct to the carburettors and with the engine stopped, you should hear it stop 'ticking' af...

Re: A new face to the club

Jeff,I haven't heard of ceramic side and pin seals, but ceramic apex seals are available as an option for the Aixro single-rotor kart engine. Lighter than the standard cast iron items, they are said to allow higher prm. I believe they will fit the Norton rotor, but are of one-piece construction rath...

Re: A new face to the club

Jeff,Up to now 'legal' import of complete Norton rotaries has fallen foul of the lack of US certification and I believe those that have managed to get there are not licensed. There was a route through Canada but that is now closed. However, uncertified bikes that are more than 25 (or 26, not sure) ye...

Hi Jeff,Welcome from me also! You're not alone with your Classic, there's now one in Texas too. Re: Inexpensive F1

What's wrong with a good GPZ600 Richard? Nothing at all, in its day. The challenge now is to find a good one; there's currently two on Ebay.Having said that, I'm not not so sure the alleged fake is a GPZ600 underneath. Maybe I'm a bit confused. and it really is an F1.So there's another challenge. W...

Inexpensive F1

Following on from the "arm 'n a leg" Commander, how about a replica F1.The rolling photos at the top of the NOC home page include what at first glance is an F1. In reality it's an old Kawasaki painted black with F1 decals applied.Get a GPZ600, a few rattle cans of gloss black, and a set of...

Re: Last interpol / commander spares

Dave,In 1978'ish, Norton had a tool made for a seal size that was non-standard then (very narrow in relation to its diameters). You'll note that the seal has no identification on it (manufacturer, size, code, etc..). That tool disappeared a while ago and the demand is so small that a new tool is out...

Dave,I offer this in the knowledge that involves taking the carbs off yet again - but have you checked the main jet bore? On a couple of occasions I've found a sort of lacquer fuel residue in there. Cleaning with a watchmaker's ream removed it without taking out any metal.Looking on the black side, ...
