IP2 & Classic parts on Ebay

I'm having a final garage clearout and I've uncovered the following to fit the IP2 or Classic;- A pair of good used footrests & rubbers A brand new (still sealed in it's original packet) rear brake hose. I believe this part is no longer available new. That's all the rotary stuff I have left I de...

Re: Classic's and their owners

There's one in the Sammy Miller museum, but I don't know the number. I was also told by someone, that he had written one off (I think sometime in the 90s), so perhaps there's only 99 left now!. P.S. I am NOT the previous owner who is selling the toolkit from Paul's Classic on ebay. That would be the...

Re: Classic for sale

Thanks Ian.
Yes, that seems to have been the problem. I removed the plugs, gave them a good clean and now all seems to be back to normal.
I'll check the oil pump settings again and maybe also weaken the mixture a little bit.

Re: Classic for sale

That's a very good point and it would agree with the bike seeming to run ok the following day. I must admit, that I was a bit sick when it started playing up, so that I just pushed it into the garage in anger. Where it is now sitting sulking on the naughty step. I am a bit reluctant to take it out, ...

Re: Classic for sale

Started the bike this morning. It started immediately and, after a bit of a cough and splutter, ran as normal (albeit with the temperature switch disconnecte. Settled down to an even (ish) 11/1200 rpm tickover and revved cleanly. grrrr. So i have absolutely no idea what the problem is. It had to be ...

Re: Classic for sale

Hi John Yes, this is my first rotary. I've done about 600 miles on the bike since I bought it (it was only ever intended to be a "reserve" bike for special occasions) and it's done a bout 450 miles since molying (Feb 2017). It spent the previous 6 months with Graham at Startrights getting ...

Classic for sale

Ive had this Classic (number 11) since September 2015. Unfortunately, It's just let me down for the second time. I did manage to limp home, but I have had enough. I need a bike I can rely on, so Ive decided it's time to sell. It's done 6447 miles and is MOTd until 7th August. It was moly coated and ...

Classic? Speedometer on EBay

There is what appears to be a Classic speedometer on EBay just now. Item 164744398321 priced ay £65 + p.p. with no bids. Ending 13th at 14:14hrs. Seller claims to not know what it's from. It would be a shame to see it disappear if it can be used. Just listed as "Norton Speedometer". Any us...

Thanks John, but I think I've decided to just live with it as it is.
As J.B. says, I would probably never use it anyway.
I guess I was just looking for something to do during the lockdown.

Re: Steering Lock

Thanks, but that still leaves me the problem of getting the original lock out.
I don't fancy attacking it with a drill in situ.
I understand the correct way is to turn the key anticlockwise and pull, but I would obviously need the key. But if I had the key, then I wouldn't need to take the lock out.

Re: Steering Lock

Thanks for the pm Richard.
John, you are absolutely correct, the lock is not vital & it's probable that it would be rarely used (if ever). It's just that I do not like having stuff that doesn't work. I'll just put it on the ever growing list of things to do "one day".

Steering Lock

I'm missing the key for the steering lock on my Classic and I do not know the key number. I borrowed a good selection of old keys from Graham at Startights, without success. Has anyone got any ideas on how to get the old lock out without damage? I'm hoping there might be a number or somthing on the ...

DVLA and vehicle history

Just wasted half a day trying to contact the DVLA, to get the ownership history for my Classic, only to be told that due to compliance with the Eurpean Data Protection Act, they can no longer issue details of a vehicles previous ownership. What a pity they do not have the same reluctance when it com...

Hi Jannes
It's an "L" shaped spring loaded strut/clip, to hold the rear folding section of the mudguard up, when removing the wheel.
Hope this help.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I guess I'm just being paranoid about the tap.
Interesting point about the "prime" position though, I just have the two position on my tap - pointing down for "main" and pointing forward for "reserve"

Re: Classic Petrol Tap

Thanks John. I was thinking along similar lines myself, re fitting an intermediate tap. I've not had a problem yet, although I do worry about the vacuum tap leaking when stood for long periods. The other issue is that if the bike has been stood for a while and the fuel has evaporated from the carbs,...

Hi Richard.
I've only just seen this. I'm sorry I can't help, as I'm also missing the certificate. (Classic number 11)
If you should happen to be able to reproduce a certificate, I would be very interested in one also.

Re: Cast Iron Discs

I've got classic number 11 and it has got cast iron discs with anodised spacers. I know these were original fitment to this particular bike, as I have a photo of it when it was nearly new. I turn the wheels a bit every week or so over the winter and don't have a major problem with rusting. Interesti...
