Re: Holding clutch in and oil supply

Don't forget that if you sit with the clutch lever pulled in, the oil pump is not running. Mr Negus once told me they will run 'for longer than you think' like this but I've never had the nerve. I fitted clutch lifting ball bearings 1mm bigger to lift theplates a bit further but actually just snick ...

Re: Oil Pump Issues

I seem to recall that Frank Westworth had this problem. It was found to be a seal either between the rear chaincase or the primary case, I can't recall. It allowed oil into the gearbox. It's a big job to do, and the seal is pennies! I'm pretty sure Mr Negus of this parish has written about this. Hop...

S'funny, but I could never get on with Avons, nor Continentals.

Found Bridgestone BT45 on a recommendation and have stayed with them. I like them, but that's just my preference.

Re: moly coating

Well, I'm not a rotary engineer and I've never worked for Norton but I have had two rotaries. My longest-serving is a Commander of 1992 vintage that needed molying when I bought it in 1995. Since then it's been no bother and no issues with the molying yet. The second was an early IP2, engine 3021, t...

That pipe is identical to an A-series Mini engine. Mine went to jelly and wouldn't operate the diaphragm so no start.

New pipe, started first time.

Maybe Graham still does them?

Re: Nationwide speed limits

I'd be interested to hear. I don't see how it can be enforceable anyway. Vehicle manufacturers have to make their vehicles conform the many construction and use regulations but one of those is Speedo accuracy. The last time I looked (four years ago, granted) it was an error of -0, +10%. So your Spee...

Re: Classic Petrol Tap

You're right about the Commander fuel tap John. Norton had a moment of brain fade by putting the fuel tap on the right side, so you couldn't easily use it when riding anyway, then rubbed it in by making sure you had to remove the bodywork to get to it, thus guaranteeing a roadside stop! I'd love to ...

Congratulations on sorting out your aircool, they're fun aren't they? Let us know how it goes when it's fully sorted. I've had my Commander since 1995 and can't see me ever having cause to sell it until I can't ride any more. A sorted rotary is a fine motorcycle, if misunderstood by the motorcycling...

John, they're an absolute hoot! The 500 will sit at any speed you like, you simply press a button as you come to a halt and don't need to put your foot down. Just twist to start again. Throws onlookers when you ride along with one of the front wheels up the kerb. The two front wheels make it extreme...

Did the Hardknott Pass last year on a bike. Great scenery, great road but completely ruined for me by the hordes of German car drivers who can't comprehend that they should possibly give way. And they are very common on that road. Should be one way, like the Mountain Road. Just confirms they are def...

Factory records and inspection of the panels show that my Krauser was painted Ford Rosso Red from new. The story goes that it was ordered as a dealer demonstrator and at the time (1992) Norton were grateful for the orders and would paint them any colour you liked! I bought the bike from the dealer a...

I think you're correct.
However, my Commander, that I've owned since 1995, always fouled the LH plug in heavy traffic. I splashed out on NGK Iridium plugs about 10 years ago and I've never fouled one since.
