My Commander is red. My wife thinks she remembers you possibly sat opposite you during the award ceremony if you were wearing a hat with lots of badges and you talked about a petition asking the club to offer ladder badges then we have met.

Re: She eats sparkplugs !!
C7E is a hotter plug than C8E. An uncontrollable tick over is usually air leaks, you say you have changed the O Rings on the induction tubes, what about where the carbs connect to the plenum chamber, air leaks anywhere along the air inlet route will give a high tick over. What oil are you using in t...

Re: Going to a rally
Oil tank capacity is 4.0 litres say 3.5 useable, for that amount I would get close to 3000 miles. I also carry a litre spare where the LH second battery used to be and another litre in the LH cubby hole.
Hope this helps.

Re: Water pump seals
Paul,
Yes it very important that you do add some kind of sealant where the fixed part pushes into the casing, I use blue hylomar but anything will do.
While you are in there it would make sense to fit new bearings and lip seal.

Re: Water pump seals
Paul, I can only comment on Commanders, I do not have any experience with F1's The original size mechanical seal became unavailable some time ago so Graham found a slightly larger seal that required the housing to be machined. As I did not want to machine my pump housing I found a 2 part seal which ...

Re: NOC rally in Sweden
John,
As I live north of Aberdeen I will take the Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry. I have reserved two hotels one on the way and one on the return leg pricing seems to be in line with Premier Inn here in the UK.
I will be with my wife and camping to keep the costs down.

Mick, JJust looking through the manual for the Commander.... this might be stupid question time... but, the water pump seal... where is the seal formed? "It’s a mechanical seal with a carbon/ceramic seal which is the main sealing face, also where the seal presses into the pump housing, it is im...

Re: Indicator problem.
Phillip, As your base line the best thing to do is return everything back to original and then start checking connections and components as you fault find. You have checked the switch on the handle bar so if its OK you can rule that out, check all the plugs shown on the drawing and the earth connect...

Re: Indicator problem.
Phillip,
Do you have a wiring diagram? if so you will note that item 58 flasher relay has three connections not two as your bike.
My advice would be to reinstate the system as per the drawing retaining the flasher cancel unit, which works OK on my Commander

Re: IP II Carburation Issues ??
Dave, JB has a point about the fast idle rod and worth checking. With a good flashlight it's easy to check that when the choke is fully closed there is play in the lever that connects to the fast idle rod. If found OK my experience of uncontrolled fast idle is air leaks at the engine end of the indu...

Re: IP II Carburation Issues ??
Dave,
Type "Bias" into the search bar where you will find a lot of good info on this subject.
My workshop manual lists the main jet height at 3.10mm, that is what mine are set to and I have no issues with how the bike runs.
BTW my average fuel consumption is 47.36 MPG

Re: IP II Carburation Issues ??
Dave, My experience of the air-cooled rotaries is limited I have a water-cooled Commander, smoking on start-up obviously suggests too much oil so I would check the oil pump setting and try to measure oil consumption against mileage, I get around 1000 miles/litre. I have never heard of a rotary getti...
