Re: Hello to the 588 community
James, I do not understand, the club has a 205 Lt drum of Rotella for sale to club members, I use Castrol Tection DD 40. https://www.thelubricationstore.com/product/castrol-tection-dd-monograde-40/ Some owners use https://www.morrislubricantsonline.co.uk/ring-free-dd-40-2-stroke-diesel-engine-oil.ht...

Re: Hello to the 588 community
James,
According to my Commander Owners Manual, the recommended engine oil is Shell Rotella 40.
If the oil in shown in your post is the same then it can be used to lubricate the engine.

Re: Non-starting Classic
Mike,
My Commander does not have a light for the side stand, as yours does and the light is working I would say the side stand interlock is OK.
I use NGK C7E 5096 spark plugs, my bike works better with a hotter plug, standard is C8E 7471.
Spark plug gap for a Commander is 0.6mm/24 thou.

Re: Non-starting Classic
Mike, This is a suggestion that I would do and perhaps not others, it will be your choice. If you have a good spark and from what you say no fuel. If not done already renew the plugs so you can rule out plug issues, buy yourself a tin of easy start, get a good charge into your battery and check if i...

Joe, 247,000 miles on the same rear chain very impressive, also that your bike passed ULEZ, I am certain my Commander would not I may have to rethink, I do not suppose you could help with what is required to pass? I have just passed 91k miles with 1k miles left to get to my goal of 5k for the year, ...

Top Gaiter
My top gaiter has started to leak at the expansion section where it joins the rear chain housing, that leaves me just one spare left.
Chris do you have any of your new gaiters left in stock?

Re: Non-starting Classic
Mike, I have a Commander, which may be different from your Classic, if my bike had the same symptoms it would suggest to me lack of fuel. You said: seemed pretty normal though perhaps not quite as smooth and even as usual. At next start attempt (full choke at first), it started and revved to about 3...

Re: Sidestand length and excessive lean
Tony, Welcome to the forum. I also fitted larger ball bearings, it made no difference.
I find neutral as I come to a stop, if I miss the chance I stop the engine with the stop/run switch, get neutral restart, it works for me.

Re: She eats sparkplugs !!
C7E is a hotter plug than C8E. An uncontrollable tick over is usually air leaks, you say you have changed the O Rings on the induction tubes, what about where the carbs connect to the plenum chamber, air leaks anywhere along the air inlet route will give a high tick over. What oil are you using in t...

Re: Going to a rally
Oil tank capacity is 4.0 litres say 3.5 useable, for that amount I would get close to 3000 miles. I also carry a litre spare where the LH second battery used to be and another litre in the LH cubby hole.
Hope this helps.
