Re: tick over problems
Hi Paul, Which ignition unit to you have ? The original Boyer unit on my Commander was prone to behaving like this, something I put down to the retard thermistor (mounted by the water temp sensor) cooling sufficiently to advance the ignition. The Norton motors digital unit, on some, but not all machi...

Re: Flat Battery mystery
Hi Mick, 0.01 or 0.03 mA is so small a current, it may be discounted, I would not class this as a dischrgrge. If your battery is 14 Amp/hours, it would take 14/0.00003 hours to discharge - 466,000 hours!

Re: Flat Battery mystery
Hi Mick,The test you have performed appears to show minimal drain when the bike is stopped. If you set your multimeter to "DC Volts", 20, and start the bike you should show between 13.5 to 14.5 Volts if you connect across the battery terminals. This shows if you are indeed charging the bat...

Oh B*****! If you are having trouble sourcing these Richard, then this could be tricky. I thought the connectors currently on VWP's site look different. Help! Does anyone have a 9 pin connector plug which connects the harness to the instrument cluster? (Femail sockets, the harness part.) Re: IP2 Revcounter
Richard,The thing is, the bloody thing can fail in different ways. The Regulating thyristors precede the rectifying stage, so overvoltage is just as likely as under voltage. The Commando used a Zener diode as a current dump AFTER the rectifier, (Even cruder) but often failed short circuit, so took th...

Re: IP2 Revcounter
Pleased to help if I can. gripper, repairing a 20+ year old PCB is fraught with issues - throw it in the bin! Re: IP2 Revcounter
Hi Richard,No doubt you have experienced far more of these problems than I have, and I wouldn't contradict anything you have to say on any rotary related matter of course. However in 1996, my Interpol showed the same symptoms and was cured by replacing the, by then, toasted sparkright unit with a Bo...

Re: IP2 Revcounter
The trouble is that most motorcycles have a permanent magnet alternator, and these are regulated by shorting thestator coils using thyristors controlled by output voltage. This is why the heat sinks are necessary. Good advice also, is never to jump start, or use a booster with such a system, as too ...

Re: IP2 Revcounter
On the Interpol, the revcounter takes a pulse from one phase of the alternator - check for a good connection here,(a yellow wire I think) and check battery voltage with the bike running as this could also indicate a failing regulator.

Thanks Roger and Mr. Mod.Yes, my Commander also has a noisy 'box, but the interpol isn't bad by comparison. The stripdown and inspection will hopefully reveal the problem. The Santander ferry to the NOC anyone? See you there.Regards,Howell
