Re: Glove Box cover for Commander
I made one using the opposite one as a template. I made several - fibreglass ones too using a rubber mold and then a piece of thick perspex. I preferred the perspex one as it was lighter and certainly more durable. If you get a thick perspex it will allow you to buff away the edges and get a nice ra...

Re: yamaha xj900 parts /commander
I have just replaced the glass on both my Commander mirrors. I prised out the old glass and took it down to the local glass and mirror shop and got two perfectly fitting new glasses for £5. Somehow I think Norton might have been down to the Vauxhall garage for the mirrors. You could test this out by...

Re: water pump housing advice needed
I have always used bath silicone sealant - cheap and free from solvent. On rebuilding an engine recently I had the solvent in the Welseal swell the seals up and blow them out of the grooves. £7+ per tube makes it a little bit pricey to use where it can be avoided!!On the subject of waterpumps, who h...

housing plating wear
I am on the point of rebuilding my Commander at 35k miles with all new tips seals etc but have worries about a series of marks in the chromium either on the rising or falling away from the narrowest points - very prevalent near the spark plug hole. (see attached -If I can found out how to insert an ...

Re: Ceramic Apex Seals
Thank you to both of you for your comments. I have been in touch with Aixa and Carl Hayward and both are converts to the ceramic seals. Aixa seals are two piece and have the main bit made of ceramic. The small piece is the same metal as the non-ceramic ones. They claim that nobody has worn out a set...

Re: Commander Rack Wanted
Keith,I made my own by buying an old Tower rack from a breakers yard and welding two pieces of sturdy tube onto it then welding threaded inserts into the ends of the tube. Then I had it powder coated. I must warn you that however strong the tubes are the racks can put a stress on the fibreglass back...

Re: New member
Hi Howell,Pleased that you are now here too. I joined recently but we used to meet up from time to time when you were living in Reading. You rebuilt your IP2 then. I have that Dorchester grey commander which I hated and kicked every time we met. I still have it but it is in intensive care- touch and...

Ceramic Apex Seals
Has anyone tried any custom-made one or two piece ceramic apex seals on a Norton rotary? Has anyone made/had made some apex seals from anywhere off the norm?

Re: IP2 Hydraulic clutch
I am testing a simple method of lifting the clutch. It is similar to the way a tyre lifts a vehicle off the ground. I have made a flat plate that fills the full diameter of the opening under the outer cover and have wound a spiral of silicone rubber tube in behind the plate. I have sealed the inner ...

Choice of metal for rotor seals
I am faced with an expensive rebuild after 30k miles on a Commander and have found virtually no seals on either rotor are reusable. Graham is moly coating the side plates for me. Incidentally, 3 faces had smeared and one had not but that had not reflected less in the wear levels on that side of the ...
