Norton Rotary for sale.
Not sure I'm doing the right thing here but I think I'm going to sell my IP2 air-cooled Rotary. Before I put it on Ebay I thought I'd let fellow forum users have first refusal - Private Message me with any questions. I've not had it that long but having resurrected it from dormancy, removed the P.C....

Re: Bias, fuel metering needle
Thank you Clive for a comprehensive and understandable reply; it certainly provides a logic behind the forward or rearward bias for the needles. Thank you Richard for the numbers quoted - they tally with my S.U. Book from Burlen as the Carb. Spec. Number for Norton Rotaries. The book provides severa...

Re: Bias, fuel metering needle
I'm still disappearing down the Internet wormhole on this one but, what I have found out: The 'biased needle' was introduced by S.U. in the later 70's as it allowed more consistent wear, in an attempt to keep meeting tightening emissions controls in the U.S.A. Seemingly a 'biased needle' wears consi...

Re: Slide needle removal on IP2.
Thank you Richard, Like you I'm not convinced WHY it needs a bias but my Norton Workshop Manual makes it clear it should have one and Burlen list Guides for a forward or rearward bias so there must be a reason? What I'm trying to do is get back to a 'level playing field' with my carbs. and hopefully...

Re: Slide needle removal on IP2.
Hello Richard, Thank you for your reply, mine are stamped 51XA - but that wasn't the question! What I'm interested in is the Burden/S.U. part number for the Needle GUIDE, which gives the needle it's rear bias. Currently the ones fitted in my carbs. (I discover) are giving a forwards bias, which I'm ...

Re: Slide needle removal on IP2.
Thank you Terry, success with your method! Naturally, having got a step forward, this leads onto the next question ....... I discover on starting to re-assemble that the Metering Needle Guides currently fitted are giving a Needle Bias TOWARDS the engine, whilst the Norton Manual makes it clear I'm n...

Re: Slide needle removal on IP2.
Yes, oil drained and slide out of carburettor on the bench.
So I'm tapping it downwards (gently) with a punch/drift down the damper rod tube?

Slide needle removal on IP2.
Sorry for the stupid question everybody ......... Having removed the locking grub screw, how does the slide (metering) needle come out? I've tried a gentle tap upwards and I've tried a gentle tug downwards, to no avail and before I get my really big hammer out I thought it best to ask the experts .....

Re: Mystery pipe on Right Hand inlet?
Ahaa, thank you John, a comprehensive reply.
It's always a worry with a 'new' bike as to what the previous owner has done and therefore should that pipe be connected to something else etc. etc.
Now all is clear and understood. Regards, John.

Mystery pipe on Right Hand inlet?
Hello to all you experts and I apologise in advance for what is maybe a silly question. Air cooled IP2, not long in my possession, checking and adjusting this and that I find there is a clear plastic pipe connected to the Right Hand Inlet pipe 50-0272. It seems as if it comes off one spigot, round t...

IP2 Sidepanel repair.
Hi to all, I'm new to the forum so humblest apologies if I'm treading old ground here........ My (new toy) IP2 side panels are cracked / split on, or near, the holes which mount (with grommet) over the pin at the rear. In my dim-witted state I can't figure out whether the panels are plastic or fibre...
