Re: Where was I ?

Yes, obviously apart from not being a rotary. You won't see the problem now as those cunning people at Norton Motorcycles have just changed the phto for one of a modified bike, shortly after I posted the link. Fortunately I have found a link to the photo I was talking about here: http://i198.photobu...

Re: IP2 Hydraulic clutch

You would need modified plates too to match the larger ball bearings.Lift is determined by the ramp on the plates. Larger balls on their own would just give a greater initial offset. They would probably give less lift as the larger radius would not fit in the track properly so wouldn't engage with t...

Re: IP2 Hydraulic clutch

No, the rotary clutch configuration is unique as far as I have seen. Unlike most motorcycle designs where the cylinder is locted on the opposite side of the gearbox to the clutch and actuates it via a push rod through the hollow gear shaft, the rotary employs a pull rod actuated by the mechanism in ...

Re: Where was I ?

Coconut to TRL. I wouldn't recommend crossing this bridge on two wheels in a force 9, as I once did. 6.7km seems endless at 20mph, fighting the gusts to stop yourself drifting into the next lane.

Re: Where was I ?

As no one else has replied yet, I shall step into the breech with my final bridge photo. It's not a particularly good photo of it, as it is so big you would need to take to the sea or the air to be able to view it all.

Re: Putting your Rotary to bed for Winter.

Have any of you had sucess with heated grips on the IP2? I have just fitted an old pair of Oxford grips on mine. They have a control function which turns them off if supply voltage falls below a certain level (about 9V, I seem to remember). They currently will only work with the headlights off, unti...

Yes, I did put that up as a clue to give someone else a chance. After all I am now full of coconut and rapidly running out of bridge photos, unless it is time to change the subject matter.

Oui monsieur, il a porter l'eau à travers une vallée d'un fleuve. What did the Romans ever do for us? Well, they built this brige, or more like three briges, one on top of another.

Re: Where was I ?

The wildest of guesses, since there aren't too many clues - the old bridge, now by-passed, at Donington circuit ?R.
It's a few miles south of Donnington circuit and predates it by a couple of milennia. The very narrow cross section may give a clue to what once crossed it.

Re: Where was I ?

I shall be round for my coconut as soon as I have fixed the pin hole in the petrol tank of the Interplod, which has left a nice white streak down the engine casing. In the meantime, I believe it is my privilege to post the next challenge.Keeping with the bridge theme, my initial thoughts were: 2005-0...

Re: Where was I ?

If I may be so bold, I would suggest it is the Ballachulish bridge on the A82. Ian was warm, but just a wee but too far south.

I believe Gulf oil was pretty terrible too. I remember Norman White telling me that the JPN Commandos would self destruct if run on Gulf oil. Castrol had to be decanted into Gulf cans to keep up appearances in the pits.

I'm just back from Brittany, only did about 1000 miles and didn't need to reach for those pint milk containers of spare oil I had stashed in those handy fairing pokets. The old interplod behaved impecably apart from its two known faults; the choke cable which won't stay out, remedied by a twig that l...

Re: ROTELLA OIL

A question for all you riders of non reciprocating machinery - how many miles on average do you get to a tank of oil? I know it varies with eagerness of the right wrist. I have had my IP2 for just over a year and frequently top up a little at a time so have never measured my consumption. I am off to...

Thanks Richard, I will contact Peter Morris tomorrow. Re: Chain oil

I've just been overhauling my rear sprocket case (IP2) and have noticed something peculiar and wondered if anyone can help. The fixed spindle 44-0089 has a flanged end that sits against the sprocket hub bearing and within the oil seal 55-0826. The flange has an outer diameter of about 35mm, however t...

Thanks for this valuable advice Richard. I have just peeled back my chain gaiter to find a split link, fortunately fitted the correct way round. Needless to say the bike will not be going anywhere until a rivet link has been fitted.

Thanks for the replies chaps. I had always thought the gearbox felt like the weak link in the bike. I sometimes get a false neutral or have trouble finding the real one. It would be nice to have that sweet AMC gearbox feel rather than the notchy uncertain feel that exists. Looks like I will have to ...

Re: Rotten Commander

No, you realy don't want to try welding stainless to mild steel. It is quite feasible to weld a repair section in without removing the engine. Just make sure you remove everything from the frame within a fair distance of the weld; heat can travel quite a distance throgh the metal. Clean the metal we...

Engine tuning

Hello all. I've had my IP2 for about a year now. My workshop dreams are running wild (although they will probably stay just as dreams!). I've been pondering separating the cooling from the induction system to liberate a modest power increase and have a couple of questions that some of you rotary gur...
