My IP2 for sale
Morning allWell, I have slowly and reluctantly come around to the idea of selling my 1986 IP2.I’ve owned it since 1995 and undertook a major rebuild in 2010, taking the opportunity to remove the damaged police fairing etc and fit a double seat. However, it has been sitting in my shed since 2012 and ...

Re: Gear Oil
By lucky chance, I saw this thread on the same day that I noticed my IP2 has piddled gear on the floor over winter. Accepting that I should find and fix the point from where its leaking....Is the consensus that this V Twin oil is the sort of thing to go for then? I was just going to chuck EP90* in i...

Re: commando + all rotarys
As Derek says, a voltage monitor is a useful thing to have lying around the garage. I bought one for a tired old Kwak 400 I was taking to Morocco which had one phase down on the alternator. With careful management, the electrics soldiered on nicely. This one (£6) plugs into a cigar lighter sockethtt...

"If it's only the inner wire that's broken, surely you can replace it with one from another?"Yes, very good point Richard. Why didn't I think of that? I was fixating on the fittings and ignoring the obvious. Ah well, I can't be clever AND good lookingThanksPike

Re: New speedo cable for IP2?
Well the cable went part way through the year so the mileage won't be the same as the last MOT. However, a speedo is still pretty useful so does anyone have any info on the cable?TaPike

New speedo cable for IP2?
Anyone have any info on getting a new speedo cable for an IP2? I can't see any on Startright's site (unless I'm going daft which is perfectly possible). I realise that people like SpeedyCables will make anything up for me but I need to specify what I want. Length is easy but connections at either en...

Re: Ignition Trigger Switches
Well 3 months later and I finally fired up the IP2 at the weekend. Pretty well started on the button. The ignition unit was indeed the problem and not the trigger unit. According to Julian at Minimag, it was a tuppeny resistor on the power supply for the ignition unit. Fantastic service from Minimag...

Re: Ignition Trigger Switches
Thanks for the info because it sounds like I might have to buy a new trigger from Boyers (I love their sausages) and the ignition unit from StartrightOf course, it might still be in Pat's van beneath Jess the cat but I'm not pinning my hopes on it

Re: Ignition Trigger Switches
JohnThanks for the update. My SparkRite unit is with MiniMagnetos but I've sent them the trigger unit too in case that's causing the problems. I shall see what they say. The leads have already been shortened on my trigger so its due for replacement if there's any sort of question mark over its perfo...

Did the same myself - Shot blasting grit got in despite masking it off carefully or so I thought. All the above really: I rinsed it with petrol and a bottle brush several timesThen hot soapy water rinse and a new brush. Then I "pressure washed" it with a hose and finally Hoovered it (once d...

Re: Loosing the will to live
I had lent my IP2 to my brother who returned it broken with the comment "it just stopped". Fortunately, I was able to get out and check things for the first time yesterday (Sun!!!! What a rare treat in the UK) and found I wasn't getting any spark to either plug but plenty of fuel. I've rem...

Handlebars for IP2
Has anyone fitted alternative bars on an unfaired IP2? Unfortunately, that bike got left in the Ukraine (long story) so I don't have ...

I've just bought new plugs for my RX8 - 2 plugs per rotor with different temperatures and completely electrode design. Very strange(Google RE7C-L + images) Do we not use SD plugs on, say, Interpols these days then? I still have a few new SD plugs down the back of the sofa so I haven't had to buy plu...

Re: ROTELLA OIL
The choke on my IP2 was incredibly stiff despite a new cable, rebuilt carbs etc, and required a clothes peg modification (Twig? Pa!). I was worried about it stripping the very fine thread which holds it to the clocks. So I removed the linkage which raises the tickover, so the choke cable now just op...

Heated gripsFunnily enough, I just bought one of those 3 wheel Gileras to ride through the bad weather. It came fitted with Oxford Hotgrips and that appalling controller. It turns out that they are famous for turning off at traffic lights (ie when the supply voltage drops) and generally messing arou...

I'm glad someone else thinks the std IP2 seat is a bit "John Wayne". Riding mine feels like getting intimate with an elephant. (Not that I have first hand experience)

Sorry to hear that - I don't carry tax discs on my bikes for just this reason. Although I am committing a "failure to display" offence, most coppers understand and will allow you to present it at a police station within 7 days. You have to wonder what use a tax disc for a Notorn Rotary is ...
