Manx GP
Ok who went to the Manx this year. I saw I red Commander in Douglas parked near the Queens Hotel and a couple of others riding around.I was on my old Brit twin but wish I had taken the Commander, it would have given more weather protection during what was a wet week.Andy

Seized chain adjuster
When I got around to fitting my new tyres I discovered that the drive side chain adjuster was seized solid, and I do mean solid. It required half a day and making a puller to move it so be warned. I assume it's because the chain hardly ever needs adjustment so in future I will pull them everytime I n...

Re: Tyres and Lights
Back to tyres and speed ratings.I phoned Avon Tech department and they recommend the Avon Roadrider for the Commander.I notice they are only H rated! I'm sure if Avon recommend them then they must be OK so I have ordered some and will keep you all posted on how the compare. They are 20% cheaper than...

Re: Surging on constant throttle
Well I found part of the trouble, the in line fuel filter. It looked good but was causing fuel starvation.I am not happy with the fuel tap either as it doesn't seem to give a good fuel flow all the time and yes I have checked the vacum side.Does anyone know what fuel tap it is or a bolt on replacmen...

Re: Coils
Hi Derek, I have one of Francois ignitions on my twin and he has found that for some reason the dyna coils kill the ignition.Obviously the Lucas isn't affected in the same way. I will give John at mistral a call and see if he can give me any pointers.ThanksAndy

Coils
Nothing to do with Norton's but does anyone know of a coil that is 3.5 to 5.0 Ohms primary resistance dual output.I have an Electronic ignition on one of my old brit bikes and the new coils are £100.00 So I am trying to find something more affordable, by the way. DYNA coils are no good as they kill ...

Smoking exhaust
I know from what I have read that heavy braking can cause lots of smoke from the exhausts and there is nothing to worry about but I notice on my bike that if I shut off hard and then re,accelerate I get smoke from just the left hand side.It is also slightly smokey when I pull away from cold sometime...

Oil pump adjustment
As part of working my way through the Commander I want to check the oil pump adjustment.I have downloaded the Interpol manual from Startright's site (Thanks for the info Graham) but was wondering,is the adjustment the same for the Commander? and is there anything worth checking or mods while I'm at ...

Re: Tyres and Lights
I used the Commander last night for the first time on unlit roads in the dark.My conclusion is the HID kit has transformed the night riding, you can see past oncoming traffic and 80MPH was no trouble and thats on minor roads. For me its excellent value for money and another plus is when the light is ...

It's interesting the difference in milege from owner to owner. The original owner of my Commander averaged 24,000 to a front tyre and 12,000 to the rear.It will be interesting to see what I get.Andy

Re: Commander running temp and water additives
Just got home from work and the good news is the running temp is now 87-89oCso the new rad is worth about 10oC and that is on a very warm day. I will leave it a few days to get a reference point and then try the water wetter. The other good news is I think I might have got to the bottom of the throt...

Re: Commander running temp and water additives
I have posted a pic of the 19 year old radiator, it's not hard to see why the bike was running warm.I have just fitted an exchange rad from Graham at Startright so it will be interesting to see the difference in running temp.Andy

Re: Tyres and Lights
I went through the loop of cleaning all the connections etc but think the HID kit for less than £20 is good value for money.I think the real problem is modern cars have very good lights as standard but normaly badly adjusted. Are the tyres easy to get hold of or mail order only?Andy

Commander running temp and water additives
What temp are your commanders running at during this warm weather? My radiator is 19 years old and has lost a lot of the cooling fins.Yesterday with the ambiant temp at 24 oC on the motorway at 4500RPM the temp was 95-97 oC how does that compare?I think a new Radiator is over due anyway so who's do y...

Re: Surging on constant throttle
I have been playing with the idle screws on the Commander and agree, they do make a difference to throttle surge. I have also noted a difference in resistance on the idle screws so maybe new O rings wouldn't go a miss.

Poor use of words on by behalf, Rotella oil is more than good enough for our engines, it's just thay by choice there are much better oils out there for standard four stroke engines.Andy

Paul , as you know it is a low ash oil but more important it is a very poor quality oil be modern standards.Check out it's API spec and you will see what I mean. I'm sure someone would buy it Off you and.Andy

Surging on constant throttle
My Commander surges when I am holding a constant throttle, it seems worse between 55-70mph and in damp conditions.A friend that owned a F1 complained of the same thing and could never cure it.Is it a trait of the bike or can it now be sorted i.e. new ignition etc.Andy

Hi Richard,I have tried a kit on a Guzzi, I am in the process of swaping it over to the Norton now.I bought it off of Ebay from China. Lots of people I know have now bought from this site with no bad experience. It dips the light via an electro magnet that pulls the lamp back in to a shroud and seem...
