Re: Interesting Interpol on Ebay
It was just under £15k when it first went up! Obviously someone had second thoughts but even at 'only' £12k it's still far too high. Be interesting to see how long it stays on there.

Re: Interesting Interpol on Ebay
I was just about to post it up too but you beat me to it. Pretty hefty price tag is an understatement, and I'm pretty sure this one has been up before with its TRRL trimmings. I seem to recall from previous comments that there is no way it can be ridden on the road (because of all the TRRL stuff on ...

Re: Alternative Silencers
Here is my IP2 when I bought it, with a 2 into 1 system on it that hardly weighed anything. However, it was very, very loud and even after I bought a baffle for it, it made no difference! rear.jpg It had Geoff Madden's name engraved on it, so I assume it was one of his specials which I think he buil...

Improving IP2 front forks
Has anyone got experience of improving the ride quality on the IP2/Classic? The rear end on my IP2 is much better after a new set of NJB gas shocks, but the front end is very stiff and seems unable to damp out even small bumps. As mine no longer carries the huge police fairing, I removed the spacers...

Re: Bikinis
No it didn't. The original fairing and fittings had already been removed from my IP2 by the time I bought it, so I don't even know what that outrigger sub-frame looks like. When working out how to fit my Yamaha fairing I wanted to use the original mounts wherever possible, so I modified the bolt-on ...

Re: Where things live
It really depends what the red wire is supposed to be supplying and where it comes from, so impossible to say what it is. When I stripped out my wiring harness, I followed the wiring diagram in the IP2 workshop manual as closely as I could as most of the components were still IP2, but in the end I f...

The only one I can see in the MCN online classifieds is this low mileage Commander, going for (a somewhat ambitious?) £12,950:

Re: Where things live
Hi Roger Glad you got your forum admission sorted. The coils fit in the moulded recess in the plastic air filter box cover that goes at the top front of the engine. Coils go in here.jpg The starter solenoid is a bit more tricky, as you have to remove the right hand footrest assembly and brake pedal....

IP2 and Classic tyre sizes
New tyres are needed for my IP2 but I am confused over sizes, as there seem to be quite a few different combinations posted in various road tests, the workshop manual, etc. They are all V18: 100/80; 100/90; and 110/80 for the front tyre. And for the rear: 110/90; 120/80; and 120/90. I have seen all ...

Following the mentions of the new gaiters (in both the latest Epitrochoid and Roadholder) that Chris H has produced, my order for a set is ready to be placed. We seem to be being increasingly targeted by scammers on the forum. Is there anything the tech team can do to purge it please, or perhaps shut down the forum briefly to put them off? Bogus postings or scamming?
We seem to be being targeted by some bizarre postings in the last few days. Are these mistakes, pranks or something more sinister?
I am not going to open any of them in case they contain a virus. The Guzzi owners club was the target of the latter earlier this year.

Thanks Clive/Richard. Very tasty and I should think the other changes under the bodywork that can't be seen can surprise quite a few modern bikes on the road.

Something not quite right with this one being billed as ex-police? No reflective tape anywhere for a start.
Might be another TRRL bike - look at those huge leg guards on the fairing. Can't ever remember seeing those on any production Commander?

Re: IP2/Classic front wheel
What a doddle - it came straight off in less than 10 seconds!
After something like 35 years on the front wheel exposed to who knows what, I was expecting it to be a real struggle. In my view a real testament to the build quality of the rotaries by Richard and colleagues at Shenstone.

IP2/Classic front wheel

Re: Commander rear brake disc
Does the rear disc get that hot on the Commander? I've only got the naked IP2 where the rear wheel is completely open, so if it sounds like a daft question my apologies. For John's benefit, here is a vented disc next to a standard solid disc - these are car disc brakes though, the Yamaha ones are mu...

Jannes As Richard says, charge warning lights no longer seem to be needed on bikes and as I have the Yamaha/Commander regulator-rectifier on my IP2 that does not have any warning light wire, I added one myself from this supplier:https://www.improvingclassicmotorcycles.com/products.htm It works well ...

Re: Charging issue - high revs equal low volts??
Yes, mine is still on the Sparkrite system and now I know what that loose yellow wire is for. However, as you say, deep pockets needed for stumping up almost £160 to replace the tacho from AN, but as it only occasionally stops working I can live with that so in the meantime I will keep an eye out fo...

Re: Charging issue - high revs equal low volts??
I have now wired the digital voltmeter direct to the battery, with fuse, and taken the bike out for a run. At tickover it first shows 13.4 volts and quickly rises to 14.7 volts, and then stays between 14.4-14.8 volts riding along with no load. Side lights drops it down to 13.8 volts and with the hea...

Re: Charging issue - high revs equal low volts??
Tony. Yes, very useful, thanks very much and it's reassuring that it's not just my bike. Having checked all the earths they seem fine. I was toying with the idea of feeding the voltmeter directly from the battery anyway, which I will now sort out. The other thing I thought might be a cause is if the...

Re: Charging issue - high revs equal low volts??
I agree Clive. I was going to do a full rewire over this next winter anyway even before I saw how bad the harness was, but looks like I will need to do something sooner. Regarding the warning light, I added it before the voltmeter, as the XJ/Commander reg/rectifier on my IP2 does not have any warnin...

Re: Charging issue - high revs equal low volts??
This is proving to be tricky. The charging system appears to be working at the battery end, which is probably the most important bit, but the warning light and digital voltmeter within the wiring loom say otherwise, which isn't too bad but annoying as they should really tally with the battery and de...
