Steve Gee wrote:Those who use comp 2 should consider stocking up (if they can find it) as it's no longer being produced, I called in to Startright last week and Graham had none left, he rang Silkolene to find out if the replacement (intended for premix or injector) was suitable but was still waiting for an answer. Is anybody brave enough to be a guinea pig and try it out ? Motorsport supplies who I've used in the past have sold out, but I have managed to order some from Opie oils.
Hi AllI was getting some parts for the Ariel Arrow at Dragonfly motorcycles of Bungay Suffolk I saw comp 2 oil on sale and asked if it was the last according to them they have boxs of comp 2 oil and the supplier has vast stocks too! Ok if you have a big van. wink Ride safe Andy

Silkolene comp 2 premix had a flash point of 185 degrees C and was 40 weight.According to Fuchs technical. The new replacement is a 15- 30 multigrade with a flash point of 86 degreesI hope to speak to Mr Roland at Silkolene on Monday to confirm my suspicion that this new Comp 2 is not suitable.Ideally, use Rotella from the Club supply. Rotella DD is the best for our needs.I used PRO2 years ago, it's fine but very expensive. Best check to make sure PRO2 hasn't changed as well! Graham.

Graham I have already spoken to John about this at Silkolene and he has already confirmed that this is not suitable, the new Comp 2 that is and they do not have another suitable oil unless Comp 2 premix is kept as a classic oil which they are thinking of doing. So any contact and pushing on this matter will help.

I'm in too.I've also had the 'we're reconsidering' response from Rosemary Mellor. The reason Fuchs are considering discontinuation is due to poor sales. Therefore if a stockist has huge supplies it won't be a fast-moving item, quite expensive and space-consumung to stock and he'd be more than happy to see some or all go!I reckon the price should be very good...Ian

I,[Dell Boy] use COMMA HD30 straight diesel oil which I find is readily available & is very cheap. I have done many, many thousands of miles on it with no problems. Smokes like a tramp steamer under fast acceleration & rapid decelleration which is very handy when going through previously un observed speed cameras. Bang the brakes on & I dissappear behind a smokescreen at the vital period.Derek._________________Click here for my Norton Rotary Motorcycles webpage

M and P told me they had some Comp 2 pre mix in stock, so I ordered 3 cans. When I opened the parcel, what did I find? You've guessed it - the new pre mix and injector stuff!! evil

Just heard from the Silkolene distrubutor used by the ROC ....Looks like Comp-2 Pre-mix will continue to be available - but now only in 5 litre cans; he can do it at the same price as the 4 litre cans pro-rata, ie/ 20% more ...Breathe easy chaps ...DC

The oil recommended by MOBIL for Detroit Diesels is DELVAC 1240 . Charts show it to be the exact equivalent to ROTELLA DD40 (same viscosity, low ash, high flash point etc..) Has anybody used this oil ?

I have had it suggested to me, that the rebranding of this oil to come within Silkolene's 'Classic Range', is nothing more than an exercise to save face of whichever individual whose decision it was to delete it from their main range in the first place.DC

An acquaintance in the States, and very recent Commander owner, has been trying to get the oil there. Turns out that the Premix SAE40 wasn't discontinued there, is manufactured by Fuchs Oils USA, and is packaged in pints & quarts.Fuchs USA told him that they declined to discontinue the Premix there as it was so popular.

This is just back from Rosemary Mellor of FuchsThanks for contacting us again.I can confirm we have re-established the “formulation” which was used for COMP 2 PRE MIX, but we have re-named the product and now we sell this as CLASSIC 2T PRE MIX – available in 5 litre cans only. There is information about this change on our website. You are correct in believing the new COMP 2 is not exactly the same as the old COMP 2 PRE MIX and for specific applications the new CLASSIC 2T PRE MIX is more suitable.I attach a data sheet of the CLASSIC 2T PRE MIX which I hope you will find useful. Should you need any specific advice regarding suitability, I copy my colleague John Rowland who will be able to assist you. This is what I sent Rosemary as the local M&P shop assured me this was the replacement:We have talked before regarding Silkolene Comp 2 Premix. So off I go to my local dealer for another 4L. He informed me they don't supply it anymore, strange I thought as we have been informed Silkolene is continuing to market it.What he did have was Silkolene Comp 2 Synthetic Ester Premix & Injector. Is this the same as the Comp 2 Premix Electrosyntec Technology that I was using. Why don't the people who this oil know that it is the same oil repackaged? It's a different oil totally and shouldn't be used. No one can tell me and that's why I am e-mailing you. Please put my mind at rest although I bought it on the shops advice it won't be they footing the bill for an expensive engine rebuild.this is from the data sheet supplied by Rosemary:Electrosyntec Technology – SAE 40 Synthetic Ester 2-Stroke and RotaryEngine Oil. Description & ApplicationsElectrosyntec uses electrostatic forces to bond lowfriction molecules to stressed metal surfaces, releasing hidden power and ensuring long-termperformance retention.A unique ashless synthetic blend for motocross, enduro, trials, classic and aviation 2T engines whichrequire a tank mix oil. Also very suitable formotorcycle and aviation rotary motors. It is ideal foruse in engines which are used seasonally orinfrequently, as CLASSIC 2T PREMIX leaves acoating on all internal surfaces to prevent corrosion. Its ashless additive system and high ester syntheticcontent ensure clean burning and freedom from plugfouling from low speed to full throttle.Fuel DataCLASSIC 2T PREMIX is recommended for use atratios from 2 to 3% in fuel (from 50 parts fuel : 1 partoil to 33 parts fuel : 1 part oil). It is compatible withstandard pump fuels and 100LL Avgas.Users are advised to follow engine manufacturers’ oiland mix recommendations. For classic and vintageengines, consult marque specialists.Hope this helpsRoger
