Classic's and their owners
Classic's and their owners
Just for the fun of seeing how far we can come in completing a 100 LE bikes-list. Below is what i could find in the public domain/internet/forum/FB.
So no problems concerning privacy i guess.
Craven Collection York has a Classic, what number?
Paul Ralph now has number LE011?
Solvang Motor Museum has LE100
Mark Smithard (USA) has LE009 and another one with number?
Tony Gutteridge has LE069
Paul Miles has LE035
Albert van de Heijden Netherlands has a Classic, number?
Jannes Geertsma Netherlands (that's me) has number LE044
Who can make the list complete?
Jannes

Re: Classic's and their owners
The toolkit that should have been with my Classic is on eBay now the owner at the time apparently didn't have it but all of a sudden he has and its on eBay. Doesn't seem right to me????
But that's life I guess hope I win it to get the bike partnered back with its actual tools.

Re: Classic's and their owners
I have finished writing the piece about what Classics are where, as known to the club. We can account for 50 .... which is 50%!!!
Which means there's another 50 out there somewhere!
It'll be in the next (but one) magazine.

Re: Classic's and their owners
PM me the details, Paul - thank you.
So sorry to read that the vendor of your Classic suddenly ‘found’ the toolkit that should have gone with the bike.
Good luck!
David

Re: Classic's and their owners
There's one in the Sammy Miller museum, but I don't know the number.
I was also told by someone, that he had written one off (I think sometime in the 90s), so perhaps there's only 99 left now!.
P.S.
I am NOT the previous owner who is selling the toolkit from Paul's Classic on ebay. That would be the previous - previous owner, who was adamant that he had never had the toolkit when I bought the bike from him a few years back. In fact, I was the one who spotted his name and the listing on ebay whilst looking for parts for my Commando the other day.
P.P.S.
What I do have, is a pair of correct IP2 style lockable panniers and rails to fit the Classic (and IP2), which the new owner did not want.
These are for sale, if anyone is interested.

Re: Classic's and their owners
Yes sorry Geoff has been really helpful and let me know about the toolkit, luckily I did win it to reunite it with the bike.
I am now looking for a Norton key wallet and the original certificate someone has it somewhere and it should be with the bike of course.
Thanks Geoff

Re: Classic's and their owners
I did not get the key fob with any of my Rotary's, some New old stock ones turns up on eBay, I bought 1 for each bike. All were sold.
The Norton logo won't last long if it was used regularly. I can supply high Res photos if someone wants to get some made.
Regards Wayne

Re: Classic's and their owners
I know of two in Australia inc mine no 53 I’ll do some digging for the other one it was the only one sold officially by a Norton Dealer in Australia, it’s only done 150klm from new sat in a museum in QLD for years. Offered it to me a few years ago for au$50k. Way over the top back then but on the money now.
Four in USA that I know of.
clwyd classics Had no13 for sale 20 years ago.
The mint one that was fully restored sold on eBay for £22,500 going overseas. I paid £15k plus £500 for the crate it’s original and totally mint condition.

Re: Classic's and their owners
I own LE022. I bought it from its original owner in 2004.
Its fuel tank was wrecked in an accident in 2008. It has used an Interpol II tank and side panels ever since. Anyone who can supply me with a good Classic tank for me to restore LE022 to original condition, please get in touch!
