sealant

Post by re5rotary »

Hi I finally have the time to put my Commander engine and gearbox back together. What is the current recommendation for sealant to use on all the mating surfaces since no gaskets appear to be used. When I stripped the bike down there were vast amounts of orange RTV oozing out from everywhere, always a sign of poor workmanship I reckon.

Terry,
For the rotor housing joint faces, use a thin smear of Wellseal.
Stationary gear O-rings, use high temp RTV, Loctite 5368 or similar.
All other joint faces, use 5368 or similar.

Both eccentric shaft nuts; Loctite 270, 150 lb.ft.
Clutch nut; 270, 100lb.ft.

Orange RTV is almost as bad as the Red Hermetite favoured by RE Crusader owners!
R.
Just a bike-less old fogey now. Boo-hoo!
