temp sender

Can anyone tell me the best way to get to the temperature thermocouple on the top of the engine? I believe my thermocouple sender is not properly screwed into the casing giving a slightly low reading, not a major issue but one I would like to resolve. I have a new temp meter fitted and the wiring appears fine.\r\rthanks in advance.

Sorry I was not clear this is on an air cooled Norton Interpol 2 engine.
