Re: Tyres and Lights

Hello Richard, I bought a Triton a couple of years ago. Went for a proper thrash on it for the 1st. time & found when I returned I had aquired an additional rain groove. I surmise the bike had only been built for posing & not ridden hard. Come M.o.t. time I switched the tyre onto the command...

Re: Tyres and Lights

Hello Andy, I get them from a local shop but I am sure you can order them through any dealer. There probably available on line. I have not had the need to look for them. Regards, Derek.

Re: Tyres and Lights

When the Commander was new the lights were reasonable to good. Over time the poor quality wiring harness connectors corrode/tarnish & the headlight dims. Try cleaning/sealing all connectors. I do the A.C.U. National all night rally [900 plus miles in 24 hours] & find the headlight adequate f...

Re: New member, old owner,

Thanks for the history Mal. My memory is that it was a single idler which had a knob on the side to adjust the tickover but it was a long time ago. Had the engine rebuilt twice due to clear plastic oil pipe hardening & snapping off. Result, loads of oil in gearbox, none in engine. Very expensive...

Don`t know if it is common knowledge but the paper commander filters are Reliant Robin items available from your local parts store. Derek.

Re: F1 Sport - Misfire and high tickover

Hello Barney. Don`t know if this is relevant with a Sport but on my F1 the heat ofthe engine in traffic vapourised the fuel in the supply giving an insoluble misfire & cutting out in town traffic. Because of this I sold the bike on. Derek.

Re: ROTELLA OIL

Further p.s. Rotella 30 is really too thin in my opinion & may leak out of every joint because the engine was designed to hold in thicker oils i.e. straight 40 or 50. Give it a try! Derek.

Re: ROTELLA OIL

Run your Cub on the cheapest NON synthetic oil. I.E. mineral oil 20/50 But add WYNNS or S.T.P. oil additive at about £6.00 a bottle which is enough to do three oil changes on a Cub. Change oil every 2,000 miles & your Cub will run forever. Derek. P.S. There is more rubbish talked about oils than...

Re: Surging on constant throttle

I`ve never had surging on any of my Commanders. I set the idle screw flush with the chamfer & then never touch it. I used to fiddle 20 years ago & found it made little difference so I let the bikes get on with it in there own ways now. Derek.

Re: Commander running temp and water additives

I run two Commanders. One has done 90,000 mls. the other 14,000. Both have been moly`d once at 29,000 & 2,000 respectively. Both run around 87 to 89 degrees & the fans rarely come on except when engine stopped. On the run up to Stanford last w/e cruising in the upper speeds the high miler ra...
