Re: F1 Sport - more running problems

Hi Derek,We learned the same thing in Service !Commander ignition units were re-fitted to the l/h front side of the fuel tank with a short extension harness & F1's to the rear subframe with a long extension. In both models, most of them didn't give a problem however.R.

Re: F1 Sport - more running problems

I have no idea why the designers fitted them & neither do Boyers who told me they were not required in the ignition system. Richard, perhaps you can explain the logic. Derek. Hi Derek,Strange, since the Boyer system was introduced on the Classic and was developed by Ernie Bransden specifically ...

From previous experience, Burlen don't recognise the SU numbers for Norton carburettors as they were very special ; Burlen don't / didn't recognise the FZX133 series.Neither NML nor Burlen have the spares kit in stock at present ; I had the last three smiley from Burlen on Friday & they said ano...

Re: F1 Sport - more running problems

Barney,If the pump ticks continuously on a Sport, then either you're out of fuel, the feed from tank to pump is blocked and the pump can't suck fuel, or the carb is flooding and filling the engine with fuel. You can check the second and third by squeezing the pipe between pump and carbs to see if it ...

[quote="barney"]I've removed the black air box spacer to check the inlet tract. Nothing. Also the carbs are as clean as a wistle. What black spacer ? Carbs may be clean, but do replace the choke o-ring while you're in there. Richard - the gasket between the airbox and the block split when ...

Re: F1 Sport - more running problems

Barney,Firstly, the carbs are exactly the same on the Sport as the Commander and IP2, and suffer the same problems that Paul experienced with his. Before checking anything else, I would overhaul the carbs, replacing the choke o-rings, setting the jet heights with a depth gauge, and using SAE40 in the...

Funny thing is, I've had another F1 in my workshop today with one of the hugger screws completely missing. It's hidden below the silencer so needs checking on a regular basis.I know Peter has a bin-full of the alloy washers at NML - so that'll be two more on Monday morning please .R.

Hi David,Unless you particularly want to keep your bike original, may I suggest discarding the rubber M5 Wellnuts and using M6 screws, penny washers, and nyloc nuts to secure the hugger ? Even better, get another two of the anodised aluminium washers, as used at the seat fixing screw, and two counte...

Ok, ok !But while I'm sorting out how to do that, have a look at http://www.ginoontour.blogspot.com = Gino Rondelli of NOC Tay Valley Branch who organised the weekend. Not a rotary rider, but Commando and Moto Guzzi, who seems to get about a bit - to Turkey in May this year !R.

In my opinion as now a 'consumer' rather than a 'provider', there are several things that I think worthy of mention.. the event was the result of a three-sided organisation - circuit operator, CRMC and NOC.. CRMC did what they've been practicing very well for a large number of years.. NOC did someth...

Norton unable to race due to lack of practice . I don't think so ! They weren't allowed to race because they didn't complete a single lap during any of the four authorised pratice sessions and DIDN'T QUALIFY . To me, that says that neither of the two bikes was ready to race. Michael demonstrated ve...

I've just done a calculation of my Commander's oil consumption, with better results than I anticipated.1142 miles done since original brim-full of Comp 2 ; 1.90 litres to refill = 601 miles/litre.Fuel consumption over the same period is approximately 10 miles/litre (45mpg) which typically gives me 1...

Andy,Light smoking is normal as all the engine lubricating oil gets burned, but heavy smoking suggests either some maintenance or a change of riding style is needed. There is plastic pipe connecting the left hand inlet pipe to the frame which is there to continually suck liquid oil out of the bottom ...

Anybody know why the Commander has extra plates in the frame? If it was to improve handling, it didn't work very well :-) Hi Graham,The main reason for the plates was to increase torsional stiffness of the frame and improve straight line stability. Bob Rowley thought it was better, I believe. Howev...

Re: Airfilters Commander

Hi Malc,You're correct, the Commander frame has internal stiffening channels spot-welded along the front section (you can see them by looking in the round air transfer holes or a the carburettor inlet holes. No change to the frame externally in that area. The reverse-flow air-cooled conversions used ...
