Thank you for an excellent explanation Richard, very much appreciated, I think even I can follow that.Next step......correctly identify the source of the leak.Best.................Mick.

Re: Chain Gaiter Seal

Hi Richard, yes it could very easily be the top one leaking, I will get it on the bench, give it a forensic clean and see if I can spot it.How much pain is involved in replacing the gaiters?........I realise it's all childs play to you, but to the average plank with a decent toolkit.........can it b...

Re: Chain Gaiter Seal

Hi Richard, .....yes you could have happily stiffed me for a set of nice supple chain gaiters, but hey ho; thank you for the advice about warming the front bellows.......that's the sort of information that will hopefully make the job do-able. (is that a word?) I'm happy the old oil in the chain case...

Chain Gaiter Seal

The rear wheel on my Classic seems to get oily / dirty fairly quickly; a couple of days back after a 130 mile round trip (running beautifully thank you Richard) it was obvious that there were flicks of oil on the wheel. After much cleaning I drained the chaincase, slightly less filthy black oil came ...

I've just renewed my bike insurance (sigh!) Hope it's the right one, it does look uncannily similar. If for any reason you don't get it, my W2000 had Grimeca brakes and the best parts source for them was North Leicester Motorcycles.....they do Moto Morinis back to the 1970s.Best..........Mick......kettle738

Re: Starter Solenoid

Hi John, actually, I had to do that (bridge the solenoid) with my Classic when I first bought it to get it started......which is why I bought a new solenoid for it; however by the time I'd been through it all, cleaning all the contacts etc it decided to work and still works perfectly, hence the new ...

Starter Solenoid

I bought a new solenoid for my Classic only to find later on that I didn't need it......however I also have an electric start Mk3 Commando that could use a new solenoid. Both systems seem to run ballast resistors and 6v coils (I think)....but my grasp of electrics is pretty basic to say the least and...

Re: Norton Aurora petrol tank ?

Likewise, I have bought piles of parts over the years as an 'insurance policy'.....occasionally I get fed up with tripping over something and get rid of it after harbouring it for years...shortly afterwards I usually have a need for whatever I got rid of or sincerely wish I hadn't let it go.I suspec...

Re: Norton Aurora petrol tank ?

You may be in that slightly weird position where the item you have is so rare, that anyone needing an Aurora tank may never find one and be willing to pay almost anything for it.......and yet, if you have one to sell, the number of potential buyers is so tiny you may struggle to sell it.I guess we h...

For the Japanese type bullet connectors, Vehicle Wiring Products are a good source; they supply them in realistic numbers, not the extortionately expensive little packets containing just a few that seem to be available elsewhere.See here: http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/termina...

Re: Classic engine temp,again!!

When I got my Classic, despite the very low mileage the distinctive 'chuffing' in the air box on idle was very evident even to my untrained ear. Richard advised removing the inlet ports to see if there were obvious carbon deposits. I didn't get very far, as soon as I loosened a few screws a dribble ...

Re: Classic engine temp,again!!

For what it's worth John, my newly Moly'd Classic doesn't actually run completely cleanly until it's reached just over 100° although it's only done about 70 miles since the overhaul so that may well change.Riding it today, it was nice and warm out, about 17° and it was running just below 120° while ...

Thank you for that, it is very interesting, I did momentarily wonder if I had just assumed the clamps were original fitment (never make an assumption) but there they are in the parts book.It seems from what has been said that these systems are able to run leak free with no form of clamp? I would qui...

Exhaust removal the hard way

As early preparation for a forthcoming engine overhaul I decided to remove the Classic exhaust system. Getting those silencers off was a b**ch! The original car type exhaust clamps work by crushing the silencer onto the downpipe. Not wishing to go through that again I bought a cheap exhaust internal...
