Re: alternator brushes
The alternator on my Volvo S80 was still going fine without being touched at 240,000 miles. My current car has done 110,000 and it doesn't look like the alternator has been touched.

Name that seat
Can anyone identify my IP2 seat. The base was extended by a previous owner and this seat placed on upon it. It is quite comfortable so I would like to recover it when it eventually gets too tatty rather than replace with another style. My thinking is that it is 80's Japanese. What is the emblem embo...

I would take any temperature reading from the gauge with a pinch of salt. By now you have at least 20 year's worth of wear and corrosion which will have altered the characteristic of the gauge and the thermocouple. They probably weren't even that accurate when new; you pay about £600 in today's mone...

Well, it has caused all the Petseal in my fuel tank to flake away and expose several leaks. Other than that it would be potentail failure of any non compatible rubber or plastic components in the fuel system. Ethanol resistant carburetor floats are now available from SU.

Re: IP2 low fuel probs
Don't forget there is a fine nylon mesh filter on top of the petrol tap.You are probably all aware that the current ethanol blend of fuel can dissolve Petseal and other tank sealants. Unfortunately, a previous owner used Petseal on my tank. It has flaked away to reveal lots of pinholes and has gumme...

Re: brembo brakes and spondon frame wanted
as the frame is a fabrication one could be made, however a sample frame or drawings would be required, fibre glass castings could be taken of an original frame to make patterns. Have you considered going the modern route and having a 3D scan taken of a frame. It would be much quicker and more accur...

When I spoke to Peter Morris earlier this year he said ANIL may produce another batch of clutch slave cylinders if there is sufficient interest. I think somewhere on this forum Richar...

Easy peasy, I used to live a few miles away from there. Calleva, Roman town, south of England, abandoned at the end of the occupation and left without being built on to this day.

Any comments about selling abroad and what in particular to be careful of appreciated. My usual reply to foreign bidders is that they can buy if they can arrange to have a bundle of used £20 notes thrust into my greasy palm. With most other ways there is too much scope for being scammed - many paym...

I believe the theory is that as they heat up, the resins in the brake compound can vapourise and cause the brake pad to float on a cushion of gas. Holes in the disk provide a vent path. Modern good quality brake compounds are supposed to be less susceptible to giving off gas when hot.

Legend has it that there are lots of crated up Harley 45s and Willys Jeeps buried on the air field near me. Supposidly the Americans buried them rather than take them home at the end of WW2. Do I need supressed or non supressed caps fitted? I'm not sure what the original suppression arrangements were, if any at all; with an old analogue ignition system it probaly wouldn't have been necessary except to stop it interfering with all the TVs you ride past. Suppression can either be provide...

The mini pipe cutter worked perfectly. There was just enough clearance to turn it. My flares are now cut off (Man, they were just so 70s) and the Wade unions installed. On an IP2 is it possible to remove the copper oil pipes from the engine without dropping the engine out of the frame? It dosen't look like there is much room to swing a spanner down there. Perhaps you missed the saga of the Lucas MC2 capacitor (as fitted to Commandos) in a recent issue of the NOC Roadhoder magazine a couple of months ago. When I aquired my IP2, the oil pipes were brittle and one banjo ferrule was not gripping the pipe. The gearbox oil level was high too, suggesting a leak, so I think I caught it just in time before it popped off completely. I replaced them with what I think was the last set of plastic pipes NML had, ...

I`d forgotten Honda`s oval pistons That's just reminded me of an innovation I read about in an engineering trade mag a few years ago: the sprung piston.
