Re: Popham 2012

I can't even manage that, they are all in pieces! The only roadworthy machine I have is a Triumph Sprint which I bought as a temporary ride while the IP2 is out of action.

Alas, I only got my finished engine plates back the other week and I am awaiting some parts from Andover before I can rebuild my engine, so although I will come, I have no rotary machine to display. red face

You could use one of your flasher units to drive a changeover relay, which would cost about four quid.

Whilst on the subject of clocks, does anyone know if the classic speedo is a common part fitted to any other machines? I occasionally have thoughts about replacing the police speedo with something which fits in the instrument cluster.

Re: commander batteries 1 or 2 ??

It seems, reading the Commando Forum, that larger cables make a worthwhile improvement in the cranking speed of a Mark3; anyone like to try the same on an IP2 before I do?R. I will be doing just that, soon after a certain esteemed gentleman has finished molying my engine. I also have acquired a tri...

Re: Four stroke Nortons.

Not that it matters as your engine is scrap, but just out of interest, commando rods will fit a 650. I have a pair in mine to replace the originals that melted and bent due to oil starvation. Fortunately the noise of the big ends clonking away got my attention and I stopped before it went bang.

Norton hydraulic clutch seals

Has anybody had problems with disintegrating slave cylinder seals. My hydraulic clutch is only a year old but the outer edge of the large seal and both sides of the small seal have flaked away. If it was just the outer sides I would have thought it is a compatibility problem with the ATF I have been...

Re: Melted Fuse.

1st what do's the ballast resister do? As you probably know, when your starter is cranking, it draws such a large current that battery voltage drops to perhaps 8 Volts or so. This leads to a weak spark and can make starting difficult.A ballast resistor is sometimes used to overcome this. Instead of...

The very same F1 sport has just reappeared on Ebay but from a different seller. Smells fishy to me. The mystery of the disappearing apex seal pin springs

I've finally got my Interpol engine to reveal its internal workings after putting up quite a fight. There was so much carbon on the inside diameter of the l/h stationary gear that the rotor shaft refused to come out without much soaking and persuasion.Much carbon everywhere but worse on the l/h roto...

I'll come if the Interpol is rotating by then, although that may not help you if you need to get definite numbers now. In fact I will probably come on or in something else if it isn't.It depends on how much of a project the rebuild turns out to be. I need to get the starter motor out. Richard said t...

Maybe Joe Seifert could help if he is reading this.Alternatively you could try an online translation program such as Babelfish. The results from these translation programs can be a bit dodgy, but should be good enough for you to get the gist.Meine Kartoffel ist im Krankenhaus.

Starter trouble

Sometime last year when starting the IP2, the starter kept turning when the button was released and didn't stop when the ignition was turned off. On returning to the bike after a sprint to fetch a spanner to disconnect the battery and a bar to whack the starter relay with, the battery was discharged...

Don't think you can buy them. I made my own. Have a look at the "IP2 strip advice" topic in the Tech Interest & New Ideas folder, there is some chat about it there and a piccy of my installation. I used copper brake pipe and made some banjos out of brass bar. I think the later skinny p...

I would suggest repeated squirting with aerosol brake cleaner and much wiggling. That should hopefully dissolve and dislodge the caked on oil. Could it be that the throttle butterfly shafts are tight in the rotor housings due to accumulation of gunge? With everything clean, there should be adequate ...

Re: Norton Rotary Spares - Retail Values?

Difficult question to answer. Supply is low and demand is low, so there is generally no mass market to establish a price. The price can often come down to negotiation between one buyer and seller unless either Andover Norton or Startright has the part in stock to establish a price. Complete Interpol...

Re: IP2 Lighter exhausts / ballast resistor

I spied this IP2 on Fleabay a few years ago with Laser exhausts. I don't know what they are off but are a similar style to my standard Ducati ones; stainless ends pop riveted to an alloy can, which means you can easily dismantle them to re-pack with stainless wool. The front pipe is discoloured, but...
