Re: Commando exhaust queries
For a police Commando I reckon the 750 interstate pipes would be correct. The Mk 3 electric start Commandos have a collet arrangement at the cylinder head. The balance pipe on any Commando is troublesome and stainless steel pipes will go bronze coloured after a bit of hard use. That can be polished ...

Hi John, I reckon on getting 450 miles to a litre. Chris Grimmet was asking the same question prior to the NOC International Rally. He worked out that he was getting 600 miles to the litre when he got back.

Re: Suspect Electronic Ignition
It could be numerous things and all are hard to diagnose. You could go through the wiring close to the ign unit and check it for servicability/ condition. Consider moving the ign unit to a cooler location. (you don't say what system is fitted) Finally, I spent an inordinate amount of time getting to...

Somebody in a recent post claimed a huge figure for rear chain life on a Commander. Can anybody remember the figure or the details?

Re: Rotor springs for Interpol
Norton Motors (now part of Andover Norton) supplied mine. I believe they get them from the outfit in Shenstone that manufacture UAV engines. I tried them direct a few years ago but they would not deal direct with Norton owners. They weren't cheap.

IP2 ignition relay
My IP2 has a relay in the feed to the ignition. I'm familiar with the reason for fitting a relay to headlights, horns etc because they draw high current. Is one really required in the ignition supply? or could I just supply straight from the ignition switch? ie. a few less wires lurking under my sea...

Nice to drool over but not much fun to ride. Buy a £2000 CBR600 and a £4500 Street Triple and don't loose any sleep over thrashing the ar-e out of them.. you could do Daytona bike week on the remaining cash.

Re: Losing Spark on One Rotor
I fitted one of these to my IP2 about 2.5 years ago. I think they are a good piece of kit, combining the retard electronics and giving 25 revs of advance to restart when hot. A small led gives you a bit of an idea as to what is going on. It's probably the single most useful mod I've put on my Rotava...

Re: IP2 Temp switch
Thanks for that Richard, The spec came from the IP2 Police workshop manual and that refers to the rest of the system as spark rite ignition and gunton retard unit etc. I've ordered a temp switch through a colleague from CPC and their cross reference is SW0318. I'll let you know how I get on in about...

IP2 Temp switch
I'm pretty sure I need a new temperature switch to retard my ignition. Bike lights up then struggles to tickover at about 200rpm. I should have a red and green light on the digital ignition box but no. The workshop manual says RS 151 243 but radio spares catalogue on line, shows a little black pelle...

Whilst it is not a perfect test, if you wait until it is running on one rotor and then attach a plug to the failed side and earth it out, do you get a spark?

Hi Gene, It's a sad day when you have to give up your bikes, good luck with moving the RE5. Re: Chuffing and running on 1 rotor
Before you commit to stripping the engine, it would be well worth taking a look into the combustion chambers with an endoscope through the exhaust port. This will give you an idea on the state of the chamber walls. Whilst this kit is not available everywhere the aircraft industry use it for looking ...

Re: IP2 petrol tap
I had another go at the tap but it was still leaking. Finally I replaced the original diaphragm and the thing is working again as advertised. It would seem that the replacement diaphragm and spigot are not long enough to bed onto the seat properly, probably only by about 0.010" Studying the tap...

Re: Wanted: Tool Kit For Classic
You may try Andover Norton, I recall they had the tool rolls but you're not the first looking for a key wallet. I'm not that keen on the tool roll for keeping tools in. Too much scope for loosing items and they are not waterproof. My preference is for a tupperware type of container and the one I hav...

Re: IP2 petrol tap
Well the suzuki kit fitted and the seat in the tap body is gleaming but the tap dribbles a bit of fuel when it should be off. I've stretched the spring to encourage the valve to seat a little more positively. Wether it will take a little time to bed in remains to be seen but until then, hopefully, m...

Ebay I suppose. Norton Classics don't normally come with panniers unless you are thinking of the Krauser Commander. Otherwise BMW Krauser style panniers could be made to fit with a bit of work.

Thanks for that Richard. The pictures on ebay show a tank to tap gasket with a thick and thin cross bar. The rest of the bits look similar to a Suzuki GS850 so I'll wait and see what my £16.80 gets me. The inside of the tap looks ok. Reassembling it with the original diaphragm, it seems to work and ...

IP2 petrol tap
the latest snag is a petrol tap stuck on. I could see some fuel leaking from the cross frame link pipe and thought it would be a simple job to replace that pipe. Wrong, remove pipe and flood the floor. I would expect the tap to fail to open but stick open? Hmm. could be an ethanol issue. Without tak...
